And finally score it for us...  All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's a movie you want to nominate for next week's discussion.  Week #33: Austin Powers - International Man Of Mystery Wiki says: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (or simply Austin Powers) is a 1997 American spy comedy film directed by Jay Roach. It is the first installment in the Austin Powers series. It stars franchise co-producer and writer Mike Myers, playing the roles of Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, Powers' arch-enemy. Supporting roles are played by Elizabeth Hurley, Robert Wagner, Seth Green, and Michael York. The film is a parody of the James Bond films and other popular culture from the 1960s, centering on a flamboyant, promiscuous secret agent and a criminal mastermind, arch-nemeses who go into and come out of cryostasis at the same time as each other as their conflict spans decades. The film, which cost US$16.5 million, opened on May 2, 1997, grossing US$53 million from its North American release and over $67 million worldwide. The film spawned two sequels, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Over to you... How do you rate it? Favourite scenes? Best moments?... etc, and so on... post 'em up!! Give us your score out of 10! 4
Ken Gargett Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 i know the world went nuts over these. personally, some mildly amusing stuff but one viewing was enough for me. it just seemed that they took one theme/joke and flogged the hell out of it. and it became a bit boring. okay but i did not enjoy them nearly as much as many obviously did.Â
Chucko8 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Definitely got some side tickling laughs from this movie. Even still today I hear people quoting lines from this movie.
Lamboinee Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Some serious nostalgia here. Austin P quotes were all the rage in some circles of my youth. This flick has some classic characters with classic actors too: Fatty B, Heather Graham, Burt Bacharac, Elvis Costello, that chick with the giant floating life preservers in the hot tub, Dr. Evil, Seth Green and Frau Frabissina...and wasn't roger moore in there somewhere? It was a solid comedic masterpiece and the writing was smart and engaging even if the film does have some kitschy content and mass market over production. My favorite scene is probably the first scene where he is walking down the elaborate casino like staircase saying "Hey, there you are....(passerby: do I know you?).....NO! but there you are! Yeah baby Randy!" Wait...am I describing the sequel? Either way, that movie is a good laugh and lots of fun with some great actors/characters. Overall score (sequel or otherwise): "Randy Like Candy" 8.3/10 on the Austin Power's Power Pump Meter.  EGOTING in the hottub 1

Ford2112 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I'm not a big fan of the Austin Powers films.

JohnS Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 This movie often plays on Free-to-Air TV here in Australia. For me, it's a guilty pleasure. I just enjoy it every time I watch it. 1
Fuzz Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I liked the first movie, the second one got tiresome quickly and the third one... well, less said about the third film the better. You can only do so much with the one schtick. Overall I enjoy the film, but it should of ended there.
Jackdani7401 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 @mprach024, your lotta fagina reference!!!  overall the movie was good for a few one liners…it’s about time I give it a rewatch.Â
KCCubano Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 This had some funny lines and scenes but like many films out there the sequels were overkill. I would give it a 7/10. If it were on tv today I may watch it again. Good for a few laughs
Doctorossi Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I think @Ken Gargett nailed it: an enjoyable one-and-done. 6/10.
