At least I know he's not on Ft. Myers beach. It's under water. Naples got flooded, but so far my peeps that are reporting in are all ok. As in anywhere else, the power infrastructure in SW Florida consists of above ground power lines. It will be some weeks before anyone has electricity. As far as Hamlet, I take it he moved there because of his affiliation with RP? 1
helix Posted September 28, 2022 Author Posted September 28, 2022 Terrible ! At least the walls are still standing.
Popular Post El Presidente Posted September 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2022 So sorry Javi. Let's touch base offline and see if we can do something as a forum to help. 10 3

There are fleets of trucks and line men at the ready from neighboring states. As soon as the storm is gone, they will be at work like an army.

They’re in for some bad weather. Pinar del Rio is gonna take it in the teeth. She told me that she and my cousin only have the bathroom as refuge. I’ve been to her “house”. It’s more like a shack than a house. Then she commented, if we manage to make it we’ll try to replace what was destroyed but this time I’m not sure with what… there’s nothing to be had. I texted her again this morning upon waking but my message hasn’t been delivered yet. Hoping she, my other two aunts, and a slew of cousins are all ok. The word impotence comes to mind. I wish all Cubans in the path of this hurricane come out of it with their lives intact. We know the mess around material things out there, but let’s hope for no loss of life. Praying for your family and the people of Cuba. 1 1

BellevilleMXZ Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 My God, what a mess, they can't seem to catch a break down there😞

These are photos posted this morning (my morning in Shanghai) of the Robaina Vega. The one showing the carving of Don Alejandro is poignant… surviving amidst the rest of the devastation. Such a devastating impact to the people of Cuba who have already suffered so much. My memories of pulling up in the drive are forever shattered. Peace, love and God speed to all who endured this tragedy.
helix Posted September 30, 2022 Author Posted September 30, 2022 My God what a beast of a storm !!! Absolutely insane.
Corylax18 Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I briefly spoke to Hector Prieto today. He stayed in PdR for the storm and had just made it to Havana to check on his family who evacuated there. His family is all safe and sound, however the farm is a near total loss. The photos below where very hard for me to see. It will take years to recover fully. Hector does not expect to plant any tobacco this year and expects the same from the majority of the farms in his neighborhood. (Robaina, Papo, Hoyo de Monterrey, Salvador Carvajal, Maximo, et al.) He hadn't spoken to all of them yet, but he hadn't heard any good news from those he had spoken to. There were seedlings in the ground, but most where destroyed by the rain. Even if they survived, PdR is in such a shambles that it will take months to get back to basic operations. Tractors and fuel are needed for repairs, labor too. He doesn't know how much processed, or in process tobacco he lost yet, but he isn't expecting to salvage much. 1 8
