DeeBeezy Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Have tried so far: zacapa eminente Doorly 12 hampden zacapa my favourite 1
Nevrknow Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 R.L Seales. Your pocketbook will thank you. Blind taste test with RL against Foursquare. 2019 and Foursquare indelible and Doorly 12. RL won 8 of 9, then 7 of 7. All dedicated drinkers. Except me, I’m a tee totaler. 😬😎😂 1 1
mprach024 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Always enjoyed Four Square. My favorite go-to is their Premise. Appleton 21 is a good premium option. 1

Bill Hayes Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 El dorado 15yo for maduro and Bolivar, Partagas, Monte. Plantation XO 20yr Anniversary for Upmann, Diplomatico, maybe Cohiba and Oliva NC non-maduro IMHO. Find rum a bit too overpowering at times though and not fit for HDM, QDO unless mixed or made lighter with Ginger ale, maybe a dark and stormy with Havana Club dark rum.. Cheers 1 1
Popular Post Tdm_86 Posted August 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2022 If Zacapa is your favorite of those, you might enjoy Diplomatico, Zaya, Zafra etc. as well. They are all quite light bodied and sweetened pretty significantly just like Zacapa. I’m personally more fond of rums like Doorly’s, Mount Gay, Foursquare, R.L. Seales (good shout @Nevrknow) etc. since they are, in my opinion, a more accurate representation of the spirit. They are all rums with none to hardly any added sugar. Though there’s always an exception, which for me is Plantation XO 20th Anniversary. That has about as much added sugar as Zacapa but doesn’t taste nearly as overbearingly sweet to me. And my favorite rum to have with a cigar is plain old Havana Club 7. It’s inexpensive, hardly any added sugar and has tobacco/vanilla and fruit notes that I love with a cigar. That being said. The best rum is the rum you like to drink, the way you like to drink it. 7 1
Lunettesman Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 My favorite is Pacto navio. I like the Havana seleccion and diponatico too 1
GaryK 54 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 When pairing with a spirit, I tend to pair more often with whisk(e)ys. When I reach for a rum for a cigar pairing, it’s generally Havana Club 7. Nice straight up or in a dark and stormy. 2 1

Love their basic Black Seal, while the Family reserve resides more on the sweeter and fruity end. Combo depends on the cigar. 2
vladdraq Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 The best rum i ever had was the Santiago 25 Years. Best bang for the money Seleccion de Maestros from Havana Club. 4
DeeBeezy Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 Would anyones answer change if I said just a rum to sip without a cigar? plantation 20 definitely sounds up my street! is Havana club 7 drinkable neat?

Wouldn’t really change my answer, for a neat sipper I personally look for ones that aren’t very sweet. I love Havana Club 7 neat, but it all depends on your palate. The best way for you to learn what you like is to try many different things. You might find that you detest Havana Club 7 neat. One of my friends likens it to drinking petrol and for the life of him can’t figure out why I like it better than the cloyingly sweet Bumbu he likes to drink.
BenW Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Doorly's XO - great rum for the price. The official bottlings from Hampden and Worthy Park are great too. 2
DeeBeezy Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 Hampden undrinkable to me, can’t hack the Jamaican funk
Lamboinee Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 I can't say that these are necessarily the "best", but I have really enjoyed them. Particularly the Grander. This particular Grander bottle is store exclusive 90proof version of what is normally an 80 proof spirit on regular release. I was told by the campessino master distiller that campessino and grander are two of the very few (perhaps only???) rums that do not use any additives, colors, flavors or the likes. 3
Chas.Alpha Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Would love it if @Ken Gargett would chime in on this one... 1
Tstew75 Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 All of them. But my faves are Worthy Park, Hampden, Havana Club, El Dorado 3
SMELTZ Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Zacapa XO is my favorite. Much smoother and more refined then the 23, but also 4 x’s the price. Turns my Nudies N1R into Cohibas. 2
Puros Y Vino Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Big fan of Zacapa XO. Pacto Navio, Mulata 70. Ron Santiago 11. And most HC minus the "smokey" one which is a bit too strong to pair with cigars but very good on its own. 2
Sir Diggamus Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I used to pick up a lot more rum to pair with cigars and love the Zacapa, Diplomatico, and Zaya. My favorite by far though is Santa Teresa 1796. It has wonderful banana and caramel notes that go great with a cigar. I have found living all over the US that it isn't available everywhere, but worth trying if you see it 4

cigaraholic Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I’m not much of a rum drinker...but I do know how to make friends with a bartender...ordered a coffee and rum in Spain with a Siglo III....I think I could take a bath in this snifter 🌈 3
Cayman17 Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Havana Club selection de Maestros is great, as is El Dorado 15 or 12. HC 7 is better in a Cuba libre. Plantation 5 year if I’m on a budget, but it’s a little sweet. Zacapa and Diplomatico are also tasty. Lots of great rums to choose from. I’m not a big fan of Kirk and Sweeney though. Never had the Foursquare rum but would like to try it. 2
ohwino Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Holmes Cay bottlings can be hard to find, but each I've tried has been fantastic. 1
