Popular Post ElJavi76 Posted August 10, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 10, 2022 GD! We lose another one. I knew that Nino wasn’t doing great for some time now. We have mutual friends that had brought me up to speed with his condition. I shared several great moments with Nino in Havana. Autocorrect would always turn his name into Niño wheni would comment here on FOH to him and he’d call me on it. A guy that was very welcoming to all. I still remember a night visiting him and @Corylax18 at their rental home… my friend and driver Jorge Clavijo was being his professional self and laying low in the background. Nino demanded that he joined us for a drink, of course Jorge turned it down as he was driving, but we shared a great conversation. Like so many of us do he made my friend, even in a hospitality capacity, feel respectfully like one of us. I also remember my first trip back to Cuba in 2018 and an emotional moment I had with a pastry shop vendor in Jaimanitas on our way to the Fox’s place. Nino was there for that too and had kind words for me then. I know he was a valued member of this community and will be missed. RIP Nino! 6 3
99call Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 This is truly horrible news. Condolences to his family. I must confess along with a few others on the forum, I was wondering where he was, and imagining he was on another of his Cuban adventures, or smoking in his local Pharmacy (brilliant!). I was missing his valued input on the forum, and blog, and am massively gutted to think we wont be able to enjoy news of his travels again. Like Frank said, he seemed to have a reverence for a lo-fi life, that required good company, a good cigar and not much else. Always incredibly sad to lose people like this, you feel as if they're living life right, and that you need to learn as much as you can from them. RIP Nino 4
BrightonCorgi Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 That is just awful news, oh my. Condolences to his family and friends. A true maven of Habanos cigars and culture. RIP 3
Popular Post Drguano Posted August 10, 2022 Author Popular Post Posted August 10, 2022 There was never any doubt where things stood with Nino. I remember running into him in the Hotel National. He was browsing the ashtrays and I stood next to him until he realized I was there. We embraced in a manly fashion and he said, “I didn’t recognize you. You have put on some weight!” I will miss him. 7
