Not sure how you calculated that but every website I checked put 50 cents in 1918 at around 10 dollars today

CPI inflation calculator spits out about $12 2022 for 50¢ 1918. Seems pretty correct. 

I'm always surprised how similar many old prices are when inflation is factored in.
