Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted August 4, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 4, 2022 Been down the coast for the last week – good place to get lots done undisturbed. Plan was an early morning walk on the beach (finally saw the first whale breaching today), then work till 2 or 3 and then a quiet cigar, drink and a good book. Deadlines interfering and so it was nothing but working and today, being the last day, I finally got to it. Outside, just a few trees between me and the ocean. A very dirty martini, a punch and a good book – re-reading the Asian saga series by James Clavell, great stuff, starting with Shogun. Settle down on the outside couch, about to light the cigar and turn around and there is a whopping great blue tongue lizard trying to get into the house. Finally convince it back into the garden. Try again. Then I notice the door has been moved a fraction. I was sure I had closed it. I check and sure enough, another one has got inside. That one took me about 30 minutes to get out. Under beds, couches, drawers, chairs. It was much more aggressive. Finally got it out. One very grumpy lizard. In several decades, never seen one here and suddenly I get two! There are days when I feel like my life is an offcut of a David Attenborough doco. Never has a martini and a cigar been so deserved. 10
Chas.Alpha Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Just to put the world into perspective: In Florida, the house cat eats the lizards. In Australia, the lizards eat the cat...😳 1 1
Ken Gargett Posted August 4, 2022 Author Posted August 4, 2022 they are usually wonderful lizards. just prefer them outside. the bigger one, the more docile one, is back outside this morning sunning itself. if you don't annoy them, you have more chance of getting hurt by an errant champagne cork. 1
El Presidente Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 love the blue tongue lizard! Great to see them thriving. 2 1
Fuzz Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 We get a few coming through our backyard every couple of months, especially during the warmer months. Some of them can get pretty big. 1
Ford2112 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Even the harmless animals in Australia look like they could kill you!
