Popular Post hrs1
Cohiba has been killing it for me, so figured I'd give this box a try. The III is one I overlook in favor of the II or V. I know these get a lot of love on the forum. They're young, but 20/21 IIs, Vs, VIs, CoRos, CoLas and Espies have been treating me and other folks well. The III was one of Rob's top cigars in 2020. BLT was supposed to be a hot code. Why not kick off my R&R weekend with one? It's got a lovely wrapper and the classic Cohiba aroma, but it's loosely packed. Give it a punch. There's some hay and sweetness, but the draw is loose. I'm a Padron fan, so don't mind a loose draw. Onward. Out of the gate and there's trouble ahead. The burn is wonky and requires a touchup to avoid canoeing. There's bitterness on the edges. The cigar starts improving along with the burn. A subtle sweetness starts to replace the bitterness. A hint of nuts. The sweetness becomes an orange citrus. The nuttiness starts to ramp. Getting a bit of grass. Maybe I'm in the clear? Nope. A bitterness now accompanies the orange as it moves into the second third. I slow down my smoking. Now it tunnels 🤦♂️ I clear the ash & relight. Flavor is more muddled than before. Final third and the strength is picking up. I rarely get a nicotine buzz, but I'm definitely feeling relaxed. This keeps me from pitching it. Then she mounts a comeback. Goodbye muddled blah, hello sweet breadiness. Nothing like the superb IV I smoked the day before, but I'll take what I can get at this point. And then .... more tunneling. I'm done. Overall, this was a 1.25 hour exercise in dashed hopes. 85 points to be charitable. It had moments, but couldn't really overcome being under-filled. Hoping the '17s on the way from 24:24 restore my faith in the III 🤞
