Wookie
My experience is that RASS cabinet rounds smoke consistently better than the pressed dress box versions. Anybody else have the same experience?
KCCubano
Been buying both for 20 years and I have not seen much differece to be honest. Now the Partagas Lonsdales were far more superior in cabs vs dress box. Just my palate and opinion!
Wookie
Flavor is all the same to me but the cabinet draws seem more consistent
BrightonCorgi
Never noticed a difference in consistency. Cab is more likely to have a few odd ones due the ribbon compressing the cigar.
Popular Post El Presidente
I don't think that these days there is any difference. Both excellent in general. However, to age. I much prefer a 50 cab. Just the simple fact of tobacco on tobacco appears to make a difference long term (to me).
Popular Post GaryK 54
Totally agree on the value of a cabinet for aging. As cigars go, there is not much sexier than a half-wheel of one’s favourite marca. Beautiful to look at, and IMO the aroma of a cab beats a box ‘hands down’. To address the OP’s question on smokability… I personally find little discernible difference in the slight box press of a dress box vs. a round cigar out of a cab.
OrangePaw
Both formats taste very similar to me from a smoking perspective but damn the 50 cab looks so much better to the eye. 😍🔥💜
Wookie
Maybe I’m splitting hairs. I just find that I use a draw poker more on box pressed RASS vs cabinet RASS. I also find the sheen is brighter, generally, on cabinet wrappers. But it makes no difference on flavor.
Wookie
Sheen might be brighter because it’s a cylinder vs a square.

I have thought about this from time to time. I noticed back in the day the boxes used to be made with one piece of solid cedar wood, so I can sort of imagine how unvarnished vs varnished vs dress boxes may possibly differ in how they transfer/hold humidity. Nowadays they all are made with cedar ply, so each box has a multiple layers of glue acting as a sort of seal, resulting in very little difference between each packaging type other than how the actual cigars are bundled together or stacked.
PuroDiario
I smoke both, I prefer cabs. But is more aesthetics related and not getting around the box pressed cigars fully than anything else.
BrightonCorgi
I may be the odd one here, but I go for dress boxes. Takes up less space and like the cedar strip between layers. Not saying I don't buy cabs...
Tstew75
Never seen a diff in quality, but like the dress boxes for these
