Quiet weekend.....and in need of one :D

Lads are coming up to the deck now. Should be a fun Friday arvo.

Saturday I have a review with Ken. Leeoking forward to it as it has been a while! We have some nice cigars to chose from assuming he hasn't already smoked them.

Saturday night is the Australia/England second Rugby Test.  Cool nights so roast dinner followed by cigars, wine and shouting at the big screen. I hopefully will be able to catch the Ireland/All Blacks rugby test prior.

Captain PJ of the SS Chug a Lug swears that the new Top Gun movie is the best movie that he has evers seen.  Now PJ is no movie critic (Despicable me features in his all time greats) but hell I pay attention to Kens wine recommendations so why not.  Di and I will try and tie in a long lunch and Top Gun Sunday.

Fit in visiting parents and 2 gym sessions......all in all a not too taxing and enjoyable weekend!

Whatever you folks are upto.....have a cracker, smile and laugh loud!

Saw Top Gunk on Tuesday. Besides the nostalgia appeal, I really don't see why this is a billion dollar box office hit. The USN must be in dire straits if they need to roll out a near 60 yr old pilot. He should be swapping the g suit for Depends.

Planning on doing nothing. Since giving up my job in April, I have never been so content in my life by doing nothing but working around the house when I want on what I want. Really had to tighten up on my spending and realized that all the crap I was spending money on I really didn't need anyway. Really slowed slowed down on eating(lost almost 20lbs) and my homestead is beginning to look like someone actually lives there. If it gets below 95° I might burn some meat on the grill and have a cigar or two. Other than that, it's up to the woman of the house.

My wife, born in Mexico City and hence did not see top gun 1 when it first came out, heard about the excitement from work friends regarding the new one. So we watched the first one together. After it was over she proclaimed it an inferior, stupider, copy of an officer and a gentleman. I never thought of it that way but upon reflection could not agree more.

Anyway, to each his own I suppose as taste is never something upon which I myself wish to be judged. I go to court in plaid on occasion, and have more than one purple suit (not so purple you'd notice but when I point out it's not a dark Grey houndstooth....).

Anyway we are headed to Alaska to spend time on thr Kenai. Should be a delightful relaxing time. Hanging with friends who moved up there in their home. Wonderful of them to invite us. I'm bringing 20 nudies up to keep the mozzies at bay and we might even catch a few dozen sockeye.

My wife of course is not fully prepared for Alaskan living and was asking about which pair of high heels she should bring to go with her dress. I then saw her new fox fur and leather jacket in thr garment bag and was like honey, we need to have a little talk.....

Now she's scared of the bears but it's fine because we are well stocked up on those things that you're not allowed to talk about here and also bear spray. I've never been up that far north and am excited to see it. Will post pics of is smoking with the mooses and bears.

I have been on many fishing/canoe trips on extreme remote arctic rivers. 300 miles or so from nearest road. Loaded with barrenland grizzly. We always had bear bells attached to boot laces and a true flare pen launcher with attached bear banger. Only had to use a few times. I feared a charging Musk Oxen more so than bears.

Despicable Me is a glorious movie so I'm with PJ on that - "It's so fluffy!"
My weekend will be taken up with my Paddlesports Instructor assessment. I've put a few of my scout leaders through it so thought I should do it too. If I don't pass I'll never hear the end of it...

roast dinner

I'm intrigued, what does an Aussie roast dinner look like? If you can be bothered a pic that would be great.

I'm imagining steak and salad, but with much happier contented people

Since my parents are coming next weekend, I've been told that I will help with window washing on Saturday morning (not gonna happen).  I'll be perfectly content sitting in my comfy patio chair, smoking multiple cigars, and handicapping and watching the horseraces while she scowls at me through the windows.  Like all housework, I'm happy to hire someone, but I'm not doing it.  This is regularly made perfectly clear by me during our post-nuptial, ahem, negotiations. 😁

Golfing Friday and Sunday.  Grilling something each day.  Summer is rolling, I love it.

I'm headed out the red-eye tonight towards the Outer Banks of NC for my bi-annual family vaca. All my brothers & sisters, nieces & nephews, mom & dad all in one big beach house for the week. Sunbathing & sand castle building during the day, delicious seafood meals in the evenings, fresh squeezed margaritas & salty dogs at night.

What i live for.

I dont disagree about the danger of the bears being minimal. I hope you find the humor in my wife thinking they're just waiting to eat her behind each tree though.

I really enjoyed Top Gun -make sure you see it in IMAX!

Invading The Napa Valley this weekend - Hunnicutt, Far Niente and then Ad Hoc.

Oh a sow with cubs is very protective and dangerous. Had one rip up my food pack on a canoe trip in Ontario one year. Had a 3 day paddle out with no food. Just water to get us by. I lived in Evergreen/Conifer for several yrs. Same black bear would be in my back yard on a regular basis.

You can talk about "adult paraphernalia" here. No kink shame. :P

Anyone else think that soaking waist deep in a pool, smoking cigars and sipping rum is " swimming my ass off" ?

No? Just me? Oh well, so be it.

Top Gun 2 was alright, although the suspension of belief in the first scene was too much for me.

As a huge aviation enthusiast… ejecting at Mach 9 … and not being instantly turning into a vapor mist.  Many stories of pilots ejecting sub Mach and having collapsed lungs, broken bones, etc.

I live about 5 hours from the outer banks. Try making out there a couple times a year. Ever been up to Carova? If not, try to take the ride up if anyone has a 4x4. I think they also have wild horse tours up that way.
