the Cuban economy declined by a whopping 10.9 percent in 2020 after several years of stagnation and before staging a tepid 2-percent recovery last year. The 2020s contraction was the sharpest in more than 30 years when the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 dealt a massive blow to the country’s subsidy inflows. But now, ordinary Cubans are facing widespread shortages of fuel, basic food and other necessities, highlighting a devastating combination of problems that are now severely impacting living standards, including the weight of sanctions imposed by the United States, lack of tourism dollars due to the coronavirus pandemic and overreliance on imported food and fuel.

I wish I could contribute to the economy in-person, but our Orange President made that very, very difficult. I hope the many people I care for in the motherland either make it out or are prepared for the long haul......

Wow...here's to hoping the US continues to lessen sanctions down there. It's not much, but something.

The inflation they're experiencing makes most countries look dreamy in comparison.

Not at all, same rules applied as Obama minus the people to people. No issues being in-person and contributing unless handing it directly to the military (gov’t).

The embargo is what really caused all the problems (ahem)…/s…seriously though, the COVID situation has us all boned (world & world economy) and in it for a long time coming.

Its really not all that Difficult. I was there in March and I'm going again in about three weeks. Travel wise, its pretty much the same as it was 6 years ago. They've also dropped most of the COVID requirements for Tourists.

I have gone directly and through Mexico. Got "detained" in Mexico with 35 boxes and 350 custom rolled cigars. Paid an official fine of $100- even got a receipt (they would not take my cash, I was astonished).

Need to keep my nose clean for the next year or 2 and then The Motherland will be back in my rotation.
