Chas.Alpha Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Most anyone I know thinks that Her Majesty the Queen slighted Sir Paul. He should have been given a Royal Title. Cheers to you, Lord Paul McCartney! You and the lads changed modern music and the world, all for the better!!! 3
JohnS Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Haha..., they say it's your birthday! Yes, we're going to a party, party! 1
Ken Gargett Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 i'd argue that lennon was the absolute force behind the beatles. but they all gave the world some magic music and indeed, changed music forever. but not sure you can say mccartney was slighted by the queen (not as though she sits down with pen and pad and makes the list). he got an MBE in the 60s and a knighthood in the 90s. more than they did for the others at the time. harrison famously told them to shove an OBE that was offered to him at the same time as paul's gong because he was insulted that he was deemed less worthy than paul. ringo got his knighthood many years later. all beatles are treated not as equals. a friend who knew them once told me a few thoughts - and the reasons why which i won't print - about mccartney. shall we say, as a person (not the music), not a fan. to be honest, i was really sorry to hear that. one hoped for better. i did love lennon's letter to the queen to return his MBE. not hard to find. ""Your Majesty, I am returning this in protest against Britain’s involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam and against Cold Turkey slipping down the charts. "With Love, John Lennon of Bag.".
