Reddit believes porn and tobacco are the same

Not like Mondays are great to start which but imagine my surprise when I go into Reddit to do my daily task of moderating /r/cubancigars and I see the entire subreddit is now marked NSFW (not safe for work).

The only warning we received was a message from Reddit support:

Pretty frustrating. Now there's an additional concern that we have to ban any and all comments and post related to vendor discussion, where previously it was only private transactions of tobacco (trading, private sales, IG).

The irony is that /r/guns, /r/beer, /r/whisky, /r/scotch essentially any product you would expect to be 18+ is not 18+.

Strikes me as a fairly plain anti-tobacco policy.

Yeah i also noticed that and was super confused and was super nervous seeing a blurry picture of a long thick stick and wasn't sure what was behind the NSFW blocker

Yea, I saw that today.  It worries me that it's the start of the end for cigars on reddit, which is a shame because reddit is really where I began to dive into the online world of cigars.  I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but it really pisses me that we are such an easy target for the anti-everything people.  They aren't going after r/beer or r/weed, but they'll come after us.

well, when comparing against weed, weed can be prescribed by a doctor and picked up from a pharmacy. (and also paid for by a health plan). 

pretty drastic difference from tobacco.

Fortunately it looks like they just don't know how to write and vendor discussion and approved vendors is still okay. The NSFW thing is a royal piss off though.

Just stumbled upon this post, and man, I feel your frustration, Cigar Surgeon! It's like waking up to a Monday morning surprise you didn't sign up for, right? Reddit's new 18+ designation seems a bit harsh, especially when other communities centered around adult products like guns, beer, and whisky aren't treated the same way. But hey, let's keep the spirit high! We'll adapt and find a way to keep our passion for cigars alive and well within these new rules. It's a bummer to have to cut back on vendor discussions, but we'll always have the camaraderie here to share our love for the leaf! On the other hand, discussing adult movies, I don't find anything problematic. And I don't think it should be blocked.
