a friend reminded me of this so i thought i'd dig it up and show people. if you were not an aussie of a certain generation then norman gunston will mean little to you, but if you were, one of the greatest comedians of all time. part of his thing was to interview celebrities around the globe. james garner wanted to hit him. so did muhammed ali (he tried to make peace between him and joe frasier before the fight and then asked if ali could bring him back a trannie duty free from the philippines - trannie being a transistor radio). he did mccartney, zappa, cheech and chong, mick jagger and many more.

but this was my fave. sally struthers from all in the family. poor woman had no idea what was happening. and he did eventually win the gold logie and gave the greatest acceptance speech ever. no crap about thanking people. i remember him saying 'there are a lot of people behind the scenes and i have had to carry every single one of them'. (my machine no longer gets foh videos so i have no idea if this did come up or not. if not, let me know.

Spent the last hour watching Norman Gunston interviews. I had never heard of him before. Some classic comedy there.

Sally - "You ought to use an electric razor".

Norman - "...uh, I do".

Always cracks me up!

I was too young to watch The Norman Gunston Show when it was first on (1975-79), but I watched the re-runs in the 80s. Interesting note, the Gold Logie is in Norman Gunston's name, not the actor/comedian Garry McDonald. It is the only Gold Logie awarded to a character. McDonald did win Logies for his other show, "Mother and Son", with Ruth Cracknell.

Some interviews.
