DixeyJ Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 I thought I'd start a thread as I am planning ahead (my first has just turned 2) and I am interested to know how others here might be planning or currently have their children involved in this venerable hobby. I know plenty of people who have (similar to wine / port) bought a particular box in the year and/or month of their child's birth; to enjoy with them at an appropriate date. Whether it is sharing such a box or other tips / stories on how you do this I would be very interested to know. Cheers!
Popular Post ... Posted March 26, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2022 Based on multiple experience of great people with specific hobbies hoping it get picked up by their kids, I would humbly suggest one should enjoy their own and have realistic expectation for others. Cigars, like other of the less popular hobbies, are unlikely to be picked up by one's kids... Anectdotal circumstances do occur though 6
Popular Post GaryK 54 Posted March 26, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2022 I would select two boxes for the purpose you suggest. One could be your favorite mild and flavorful cigars that serves as a suitable introductory smoke. If it fits your taste, Epi 2 has been a gateway stick for many - was for me many years ago. The other box could be one of your ‘top of the tree’ cigars that age well. Nothing to lose and everything to gain with this approach. Meaning, if cigar smoking isn’t to the liking of your son/daughter, you have a couple of well-aged boxes of your favorite cigars on both end of the range to enjoy. 5
Popular Post Troels Posted March 26, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2022 Well, I love cigars, and when having a cigar often a drink to go with it - but even though I enjoy ir, I dont see it as part of super healthy lifestyle , that I want to pass on - but that is problably a matter of tradition and different culture how that is perceived. The most likely way to have my kids catch interest in cigars would problably be if they started smoking cigarettes - and at the same time cigarette smoking could be a potential outcome of smoking cigars that I wouldnt want for anyone. hope that doesnt offend anyone but though i have a liking for both cigars and alcohol I wouldnt push it on anyone. Plan to buy my kids fishing poles, so they can share one of my other hobbies 😊 8
RichUK Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 My son (nine) is fascinated by my cigars and I hope one day will enjoy them like I do. I have double Montecristo A coffin from 2002 which I am saving for when he is old enough to enjoy a smoke with me. We often open the box and have a look at them. I keep meaning to buy a 2012 box for him, so that I can either gift them to him when he is old enough, or smoke them on his birthday. 3

My son also loves trying to have a poke around in my desktop humi. The Monte A is a great idea (only had the Sanchos in a similar size), as that's an appropriately special stick. I kept meaning to buy a box to mark my son's birth (even if just for myself to have on his birthday). I fear now that might be too tricky to arrange...will have to keep an eye out on Bond Roberts 4 hours ago, Troels said: Well, I love cigars, and when having a cigar often a drink to go with it - but even though I enjoy ir, I dont see it as part of super healthy lifestyle , that I want to pass on - but that is problably a matter of tradition and different culture how that is perceived. While I smoked cigarettes I would rather they didn't, but tbh I would rather actual tabacco rater than vapes or pouches that they are pushing on younguns nowadays 6 hours ago, GaryK 54 said: I would select two boxes for the purpose you suggest. Think I'd do something shorter as well for the lighter option (Perla or smaller). As if they did want to try one I fear a robusto right off the bat might be slightly off putting (especially if they have my stomach) 🤮 8 hours ago, Jeanff said: Based on multiple experience of great people with specific hobbies hoping it get picked up by their kids, I would humbly suggest one should enjoy their own and have realistic expectation for others. I appreciate the response and I am fully aware that I can't push any of my interests on my children. I was just looking to hear of successful / positive examples of how people might have done so with cigars

Bijan Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 I've got 3 boxes of Hoyo du depute from my son's birth month. The first one was by coincidence and I smoked a half dozen of them before I realized. I'm going to smoke one a year on his birthday, he can join in if he wants to later. 3
