MoeFOH Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 MoeFOH's Movie of the Week 🎥 Each week we're going to spotlight a movie... be it a classic, new release, hidden gem, or outright turd... and open it for discussion: i.e. post up your favourite quotes, clips, memories... or dive deeper and give us a critique on why you think it's great, overrated, or a complete train wreck... And finally score it for us... All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's a movie you want to nominate for next week's discussion. Week #2: Plan 9 From Outer Space. Well, we've gone from top shelf to bottom of the barrel... Apparently... The Godfather to this... I've not seen this movie yet, but it was suggested to me by John @Nevrknow as one of the worst of all time... I look forward to taking it on during the week. Do you rate it that way? Why or why not? Your nomination for biggest train wreck? Best moments?... etc, and so on... post 'em up!! If you've seen it, give us your score out of 10!
Puros Y Vino Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Saw it long ago. I had heard about how infamously bad it was. In the end it was a lot of fun. Kinda sad to see Bela Lugosi have to sink to such depths. The Ed Wood movie did touch on the making of Plan 9 as a subplot and makes for a great accompaniment to it. Memorable stuff? Watching the UFO teeter on a very visible string. Bela's monologues over montages of stock footage. The confrontation between the Aliens and the Earth men. Alien leader. "You Earthlings are stupid! Stupid! STUPID!!" GMan, punching Alien leader :"Hey! No one talks about the human race like that!!" There probably isn't anyone here who saw this when it came out. I'd image, comparing it to other films at the time, it's cheesiness and low production standards would definitely earn it the title of "worst movie at all time". I suspect, it being an Ed Wood production, played a larger part in general given how Hollywood judged all of his films. Through the lens of time, this flick is a good time waster and really not as bad when juxtaposed along other Sci-Fi flicks at the time. I give it a 7/10. 2 1
Nevrknow Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 You said outright turd in the original post so here we go. 😂 From the gunshots that don’t line up with the video to Ed Wood using unused footage of Bella Lugosi ( who passed before the film started) to replacing him with I THINK his farther in law. The FIL finished the movie with his arm always covering his face. There’s more. 😂 I hate to say it but it’s my bubble gum movie. If I see it starting. My next 90 minutes are spoken for. 😂 2
Chas.Alpha Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Ok, I have a collection of all of the Ed Wood movies. 😳 Plan 9 was his opus. I think it would be helpful for those that are not familiar with his “unique” talents to see Ed Wood, starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landeau, Patty Arquette and a host of others that nobody’s ever heard off... Seriously, Ed Wood is one of my top ten of all time, seeing as how I love the subject matter. 🛸🚀 2

Popular Post Ford2112 Posted March 23, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2022 If this movie had Barbara Steele in it,and if Bela Lugosi wasn't dead, and if it wasn't so crappy, and if anyone ever cared about it,it might get a 1. Alas... 2 3

Popular Post Fuzz Posted March 23, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 23, 2022 So bad that it is good. I remember watching Plan 9 back in high school. I remember cracking up during the cockpit scene. Incredibly accurate with the shower curtain and cardboard control yokes! Maila Nurmi (Vampira) was so embarrassed with the dialogue Ed Wood wrote, she negotiated a deal that allowed her to play her part in a silent trance. Fun fact, Maila Nurmi had a TV show back in the 50s called "The Vampira Show", and after it was cancelled twice, a network tried to revive it again in the 80's with Nurmi. But when she quit early in the production, they eventually hired Cassandra Peterson and renamed the show "Elvira's Movie Macabre". Nurmi sued Peterson for stealing her character, but lost the case. Peterson's sharp tongued and witty "valley girl-type" Elvira, Mistress of the Dark was an instant hit and she is still popular today. 5 1
Chas.Alpha Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Plan 9 from Outer Space is arguably the worst movie ever made. Written and directed by Ed Wood, who has won many awards for “Worst Director in History.” Cheap sets, bad acting, bad editing and a horrific story line combine to make this film the worst POS to ever hit the silver screen! A must see!!! Epic. 9.8 Out of 100,000,000 1 1
cigcars Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 *Well I believe in giving anybody an "E" for effort. Poor Ed did what he meant for best - (??) Even so...I would give this film a "2" out of "10" rating. As you've heard me observe previously...the good fun guys of Mystery Science Theater 3000 who exhaustively seek out "the worst movies we can find" in order to rib them during their show have shown movies that make "Plan 9 From Outer Space" look like "Citizen Kane"... really. I can sit through Plan 9 all the way through and find it tolerable. The MST3K's films they show are SOOO BAD that even though I'll be enjoying the ribbing audience's dialog to death - still those movies, some of them, are SO bad that I just can't sit through them all the way through. All my best to Bela - may he Rest In Peace; Tor Johnson; Vampira and others. You did what you could, and Ed Wood, who really only wanted to help Bela! 1
