As i met fan i am honestly not sure I could root for any remaining team but I do like watching the phillies play right now (as much as I hate to admit).

Two Aussie baseball tragics, @JohnS and I (the handsome chaps below), are starting this thread for all things MLB season 2022...  Spring Training, Trades, Regular Season, Post Season... jump on i

Hey @Chas.Alpha I’ll see you your Hall of Fame pitcher and manager and raise you a hall of famer of my own. I met Ricky Henderson in Cabo back in 2010 the year after he was inducted. Wife and I were w

Blue Jays fan. They’ve taken a good team and added some big pieces. Should be a good year but the AL East is always a grind.

Who's everyone wanting out of remaining teams? I initially wanted LAD and Toronto. Guessing with whose left I will go Padres and Yankees although the NYY offense has to score early as Houston bullpen has been lights out.

I also wanted Toronto and then once they were out LA. Now I’d like to see San Diego win but Houston looks like they are going to be tough to beat.

Well . The Yankees are going to have to find lightning in a bottle if they want to stay in this. Phillies are rolling now. That was a case of poor pitching on both sides.

Judging by the history of 7-game postseason series, the Yankees have a 4 in 39 chance (around 10%) of even forcing a Game Six. Making it to Game Seven has only been done twice, in the 2004 ALCS when the Boston Red Sox did so against the New York Yankees and in 2020 when the Houston Astros won three in a row to force Game Seven against the Tampa Bay Rays.

After scoring four runs in the first innings, you'd think the San Diego Padres should have won Game 4 today. Credit must go to Rhys Hoskins who hit two 2-run homers to get them back in it. Even then, Juan Soto's two-run shot to make it 6-4 couldn't guarantee a lead. That was indeed a disappointing loss.

Well done to the Phillies as in my view, San Diego has a better postseason roster but Philadelphia have the momentum. Now let's see what Yu Darvish does in Game 5.

Tough game to watch as a Padres fan but Phillies had the bats. Hate to be in either of the first inning’s pitcher’s heads right now and god forbid if either get a start in the WS.  Hoping the Pads aren’t too demoralized and keep the fight going!

Sorry, this has nothing to do with the playoffs. File this under “other MLB news.”

I just saw that my Rangers hired manager Bruce Bochy. Some fans complaining about his “up/down record,” which is absurd. In three of those “up” years, he got WS wins from his team. Didn’t he also take the Padres to the WS but lost? Great knowledge of the game, and a good hire, I say.

I say great hire as well. Even the best of the best managers have had so called bad years. I would welcome him here in Kansas City with open arms!

Bochy is so beloved here in the bay area. He manages the game the right way. Great at managing a pitching staff when it counts. Players will respect him,he has great instincts. I really wish he would replace Kapler at this point. Rangers scored. He's a legend and future hall of fame manager. He will change that whole clubhouse.

On topic. If Darvish is on the Padres can pull out a win. I hope they do it. Astros Padres is my hope for the Fall Classic.

I miss Darvish here in Texas. He had some weak games for sure, but I attended lots of games where he absolutely dominated. The environment in the ballpark was electric when Yu was on a roll! I was at his first home Rangers game, his last, and many in between.

Managerial issues. Throwing strikes to harper is not a good idea.

Series on the line, outs or not, they should have pitched around Harper or not at all.

In the other series, seems the MLB and the Yankees are pulling their weather delay shenanigans again.

Go Philly. What do I have to do to put some good juju out there?  Eat a cheesesteak?  Throw a battery at Santa?  Down with the trash cans

Well, did you pick a Houston Astros-Philadelphia Phillies World Series at the beginning of the postseason? Of course you didn't!

Some questions I have:

  1. Can the Astros continue their postseason perfect record in 2022 (currently 6-nil)?
  2. Can Bryce Harper and/or Rhys Hoskins keep it (home runs that is) going?
  3. Will Jeremy Pena continue his heroics this postseason?
  4. Will the Houston Astros pitching bullpen actually concede some runs? (After all, they've only conceded three in 33 innings this postseason!)
  5. Who will be a first-time World Series Winner, Bryce Harper or Dusty Baker?

All I can hope for is for the Astros to sweep the precious Yankees.

I’ll just leave this here. 😂

Btw, Bob Melvin is a pretty solid manager from the outside looking in. I don’t care how confident you are in your reliever… you cannot pitch to Harper in that spot. Right now these two teams facing off let’s see how many times Harper or Alvarez get pitched to if there’s any open base and the game is on the line. I’d say you’re crazy if you do. Phillies are a good mix of veterans with a few sprinkled young kids. Astros have their black eye from their scandal. I’ve got too many friends from PA plus they’re from the NL East and them winning a WS would make Keith Hernández look like a crazy person… sorry Phils I’m going Stros in 5.

For context, Keith Hernández is one of the Mets broadcasters. He opted to skip a trip to call a weekend of games in Philly this summer. He said on the air that the Phillies were not a good fielding team. Remember, this cat won 11 gold gloves at first base in his day so defense is a big deal to him. (How is this man not in the HOF?) So word got out and even the Phillies broadcasters then picked up on it and the whole Keith Hernández critique of their defense grew some legs. I guess you don’t have to catch the ball all the time during the regular season. If you’re hot going into October you can make some serious noise.

Sidebar, of the 4 teams that had a first round bye (3 of them won 100+ and Yankees won 99) only the Astros remain. Two of those teams were eliminated in the divisional round. So this first round bye in baseball isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In baseball you’re playing 5/7 days a week for almost six months of the year. You can’t hit pause and then just turn it back on like that.

Yup.

When I saw Harper come up in that situation my thought was that he was the hottest hitter in baseball right now in the postseason--even though it would have violated "conventional wisdom" to pitch around him with a man on first and nobody out it would have been the smart move.

Not sure who I want now. Yes the Astros cheated and got caught but now Baker at the helm. Phillies barely get in and have been a gritty postseason team. I hope its entertaining and goes 7 games.

I gotta root for Baker to get a ring. He deserves it. Philadelphia hasn't done anything worthwhile to me since Rocky 2.

Probably leaning that way for same reason

Philly makes statues of make belief sports stars… like Rocky! 😂😂😂

For the record the Phillies are the losing-est franchise in all of sports history here in the states. That’s not necessarily a byproduct of how bad they’ve been for long stretches of time but more so that they’ve been around forever. (140 seasons plus) Still, kings of the L.

Philly made a statue to honor a great movie set and filmed in the city, at a time when virtually no movies had been.

As for other public art, the city has a slew of it and has committed to it as a key component of new development for many decades.  The Smithsonian lists over 700 outdoor works, including around a dozen by Alexander Calder and a terrific version of The Thinker by Rodan.

I hope you weren’t offended. My comment is laced with satire and meant to be funny. The Rocky franchise was great. I watched all 18 of them. Now it’s giving us more Creed movies still. All that being said… Rocky remains not real.

As for other works of art thru the city I’m sure they’re bountiful. I said nothing about those.

As a matter of fact I’ve mentioned the artist before but I’ll mention him again. Felipe Jesus Consalvo was a Cuban immigrant whose art went undiscovered for a very long time. They actually discovered most of his collection during a garage sale in the early 80s in West Philadelphia. The beauty is that someone managed to recognize it for what it was. I called one of the museums in Philly that have exhibited his work to see if they sold replicas or poster copies of his work but they don’t. Real shame. Here’s a link to some of his work that is exhibited:
