Mike was extremely welcoming even though I was a Havana newbie. A great guide. I fondly remember our efforts every morning to get more coffee from the folks running the house. I’m sure Mike needed it more than me because I don’t think he slept much. His nonstop energy, and continual interest in engaging those around him and enjoying every waking moment was inspiring. He will be missed. —-sam (aka Walt) I remember this trip to the rum museum for the Havana Maestros tasting in 2016. 1
Popular Post dominattorney Posted March 18, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2022 I was not at first going to post anything here as my only interaction with Mike was vis a vis the Alfisti thread and maybe a PM or two. It's sad to see someone go, but also weird that whenever someone passes that is when the greatest shows of affection appear to come out from a community. Makes me think, and I by no means intend to hijack the purpose of this thread by saying so, that we should all endeavor to show more appreciation to those who touch us while they are still around to appreciate it and perhaps to return the favor. Also, like many, I had thought of Mike as a forum legend. Perhaps his passing is a call for all of us to carry memories or projections forward with us in our conduct both here and elsewhere. I for one could not think of a better way to be remembered than to be carried onward after my passing as an example to others. In honor of Mike I gave away a few choice cigars today. I'll do the same in the weeks and months to come, and share my passions with those close and ancillary to me. 17 1
Pharmacovigilant Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. I only knew him through zoom calls - such a great guy and the heart and soul of this community. Prayers for his family.
Perla Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 This is news breaks my heart. Mike was generous, open-hearted, funny, full of life, a charmer. In the post " no time like the present" he always encouraged us to live in the here and now. If I were to give Mike a mantra it would be Sharing is caring. We need more Mike‘s in our world. My deepest sympathy to Kelly, his family & friends. 3
Shrimpchips Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Such sad news, even if I don’t have the pleasure of knowing him well. Rest In Peace.
mprach024 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Haven’t logged on in a while, and this is what I log on to. I’m heartbroken. Many a Zoom sessions with this man. Many laughs and great stories. Was supposed to meet him for dinner just 6 weeks ago that fell through logistically. I’m in total shock right now. 2
Philc2001 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 While I never met Mike in person, I felt like I knew him. We had chats and he inspired me like so many others with his “no time like the present” thread, which I added little to, but admired in spirit. Mike always had kind and encouraging feedback, and of course he had primo cigars that many of us only dream about. So long brother, Rest In Peace with the knowledge you inspired many brothers and sisters, and rest assured your presence and sense of being will be sorely missed.I will be smoking my best and tipping a glass of my finest scotch this weekend in your honor. Condolences to your loved ones who are grieving your unexpected departure.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
Popular Post inter4alia Posted March 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2022 I just returned from out of town to this news. I won't suggest I knew Mike well but I did several box passes with him, and he bombed me hard as part of the pay it forward movement. But most importantly he joined one of our Chicago herfs back in the fall of 2019 and I always hoped he would make it back to Chicago for another one. RIP, brother. You brought so much joy to so many of us in this hobby. No time like the present to fire up something special. 13
SpecialK Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 just got back in town... I can't believe it... Prayers to Kelly, his family and all of his friends.. 2
GaryK 54 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Just unbelievable news. I only knew Mike from his postings and comments. But in everyone of his comments, he exemplified the best of our community. A generous heart and a true love for life. He will be missed. 2
BuzzArd Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Incredibly difficult news to digest…. Rob, please give Kelly my condolences when next you speak to her. We had never been able to meet in person and I’m sad. For the world to have lost such a generous soul is indeed tragic. Buzz 3
Çnote Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 I did not know Mike beyond a brief zoom meeting and his posts. I admit a huge jealousy for his collection but saw his generosity on the threads. His spirit was obvious in his magnum opus thread. I already miss his contributions to the forum and wish the deepest of condolences to his family and close friends. 3
zeebra Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Oh no! RIP Mike! Condolences to Kelly and his family🙏 1
Laxman Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 That is just horrible news! Mike was such a stand up guy. Smoked with him a few times over the years and we always had many laughs. So tragic, my thoughts and prayers go out to Kelly and his family. Another great one taken way to soon. 1
Popular Post joncat Posted March 22, 2022 Popular Post Posted March 22, 2022 2014 Hoyo Des Dieux and, of course, Habana Club in honour of Havana Mike. RIP Mike 6
AlohaStyle Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 So sad... so sorry to all his family and many friends that he made along the way. He was a true ambassador to what we all love about the cigar community. 2
Newkarian Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Sad to hear this. Just came back after a hiatus and my last message in my box was with Mike doing a box pass. Will spark up one of those in regards to this great man. 1
mrmessy Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 I only had a few chances to talk to Mike. He lives in my area but I was not fortunate enough to meet him in person. He seemed a genuinely good soul. My condolences to his loved ones. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk 2
