Not that I would consider myself a connoisseur of malt liquor, but when we were kids we would get older kids to buy us Olde English, and to my memory, it wasn't that bad! Or maybe it was because I was a kid and had absolutely no perspective on good booze.

It had to be better than this Steel Reserve high gravity stuff I bought one time out of curiosity. That garbage was the devils swill, just thinking if it now makes my stomach turn. I'm serious - that stuff should be illegal.

King Cobra is what we would sometimes get as poor college kids. About $2 for 40 oz of 6 ABV. In all honesty, the malt liquor 40's are imo leagues better than domestic American beer like Bud, Miller, Corona etc. At least they actually have some flavor and are generally not made with rice and corn syrup. Then again its been 10 years since I have had one... I'll stick with the craft beer.

You haven't experienced a 40 until you have done Edward 40 hands 🤣

Depends on your locale and your influences.  Over all, Colt 45 is the best.

If you're Snoop or Ice Cube fan, then it's St. Ides.  If you're from NYC then it's Olde English.  In New England, it's Haffenreffer Private Stock.  They use to offer it in a 64 too.  I could never finish a 64 before it was piss warm.

I was always a Mickeys guy back in the day, 40s and big mouths too.

Can't wait to see connoisseur @Ken Gargett notes from his past 40oz tastings. I imagine he may have even done some banger verticals of Olde English 😂

In my wayward youth in a suburb of NYC we drank St Ides, King Cobra, Hurricanes, Steel Reserve and Old English. These paired well with cigars augmented to other purposes.

At some point I got “classy” and switch to 22oz Heinekens.

Has anyone had any malt liquor recently? I imagine the taste would be slightly nauseating.

This is some stupid stuff. No one drinks 40s. I drank 40s in the 90s but drinking a 40 now is worthles

Haha. Agreed, I was in College the last time I had one of these, the 4 Lokos got so strong they had to pull them off the market. They where like over-the-counter speed balls. Haha.

What are these? Big bottles of lager? Is the malt liquor a name all these have?

Yes, just over 3 "standard" 12oz American beers, in one bottle. Typically at a higher alcohol level (6-8% vs 4.2%), which pushes it closer to a "6 pack in a bottle." They're a lot of fun and provide a way to cheaply and conveniently get Turnt.
