Popular Post bishop532 Posted February 6, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 6, 2022 This afternoon I decided to smoke a Hoyo du Depute - my first time trying this cigar. I’ve heard lots of good and lots of bad about these little things. These are from 2020, with a light brown wrapper and very little aroma (a hint of cedar, or maybe I was imagining it) coming off the foot. The cap looked like it was applied well, but there were a few largish veins. The cold draw was hay and some undetermined wood with a touch of fruit. I headed out into the cold and lit it up. The first third was wood and cream. Simple, but good. The retro added spices and a touch of sweetness, possibly fruit. The second third brought slightly sweet coffee to the fore. Like a robust coffee with fruity notes, as opposed to coffee with sugar added. I was also getting more cream, cedar, and a little bit of baking spice. I like this a lot. Inspired by the coffee notes, I decided to grab myself a coffee (which I’d set to brew right before coming outside). The last third was more coffee, cedar, and cream. The retro was earthy for the entire second half of the cigar. I smoked it down the nub. Construction on this cigar was great. As I mentioned, I’ve heard a few horror stories about tight rolls with this cigar, but I’d rate construction and burn on this very highly. This is a young cigar, and it kind of shows in a couple ways. That said, it has a lot of promise and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what develops over the coming years, and to smoking more of them on the way Total Smoking Time: 44 Minutes Score: 91/100 10
patrickamory Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 I have a box of OMU MAY 21 and the first one was more or less exactly as you describe. Really lovely cigar. Looking forward to more. 1
Nevrknow Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Totally agree. ROTT these were ho hum. After some rest they perked up. Actually bought them after advice from my “ collusionist “ @Bijan. 😂😂😂 2 2
Ej456 Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Nice review. I’ve had some pencil taste in the few I’ve had but a solid cigar in my book.

You get so much flavor from the wrappers, if only Habanos would take a few steps back from their constant “bigger is better” line… 1

I’ve heard that pencil shavings thing is kind of common with these. I could see some of the wood flavors I picked up possibly going that direction, but mostly it seemed more like cedar to me. 1
Pharmacovigilant Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Thanks for the great review. Might need to keep my eye out for a box next time they’re put up! Sounds like my cup of joe. 1
JV0505 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I just received a young box as well. I look forward to seeing what they turn into in a couple of years.
BigGuns Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 One of my favorite “mini smokes”. I’m always blown away by the amount of smoke output. Chimney for days.
