La_Tigre Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Defense is gassed by the end of the game. Need to go to a college style overtime. 1
ElJavi76 Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Think about soccer and how extra time is done there… you can score but you then have to defend that score until the extra session expires. Play a 10 or 15 min OT quarter and whoever is on top wins. If they’re still tied then make it competitive with another skill player, your place kicker… start with 40 yd FGs and back it up 5 yds until someone misses. Think of it like penalty kicks in soccer. Chances are most competitions would be settled inside the extra quarter. As I recall, when the Chiefs lost to to the Pats in OT the same way 2 years ago Kelce said it would be “more fair” if both teams got to touch the ball in OT. Guess he’s ok with it this time. P.S. I don’t mean to start a debacle over this but the NFL changed the Washington football team’s name because of its connotation. The Chiefs are still the Chiefs and what’s up with the chanting and the tomahawk chops? I don’t have a horse in the race. The only Indian I have in me is likely Taino or some other Cuban indigenous type, but I think it’s a joke that you go thru that trouble to address one thing and then it’s ok with another team. The stadium is called ARROWHEAD Stadium FFS. No credibility. Strictly my opinion.

I agree with you that the NFL doesn't have social credibility, but I'd say "Redskins" is certainly a different connotation than "Chiefs". I'm guessing the Chiefs are catching heat from plenty of people to make a change as well, it's probably just not as hot as it was for the Redskins. All the NFL has ever done is put out the hottest fires, otherwise, they don't care. 2

Look at baseball though… even the Cleveland Indians are retiring the name and going with Guardians. Nothing derogatory about the word Indians, but out of respect they opted to change it. The Chiefs thing isn’t so much the name but again if the NFL is to be taken seriously about culture change how about renaming the stadium and maybe dissuading fans from using the chant and the chop. The Atlanta Braves have been catching heat over the years cause they actually encourage it by posting cues on the scoreboard and prompting fans to chant. I’m not the biggest progressive on here but I like even playing fields. If you’re going to demand certain changes and bypass on others, to me you lose all credence. You’re picking winners and losers, and like you very well stated “putting out the hottest fires” but not much more. I don’t want to hijack the thread with an off topic thing but thank you for entertaining it. And getting back to football, I couldn’t agree more with everyone who stated the obvious. Why didn’t the Bills squib kick the ball? Even if you shave 4 or 5 seconds off. Heck if they run it back to the 50 yd line you still take 7 or 8 seconds off the clock. At that point all you have to do is defend one play really cause if they run Butker out there for a 60+ yarder I’d gladly take my chances. Love my Bills. Love Josh. Coaching staff needs some tweaks. I love McDermott. He’s got buy-in from all his players. They love him. They need more D to get over the hump. They’re wasting monster performances and years out of their prime time guys. 1

I REALLY hope my Giants dont Hire Leslie Frazier, that D got torched and it isnt looking any better for him as the smoke clears. The Chiefs players (mainly Kelce and Mahommes) knew Exactly the plays Frazier was going to call: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/01/26/travis-kelce-was-micd-up-told-teammates-which-routes-would-be-open-on-game-tying-drive/ I agree completely on the hypocrisy of the NFL, but it goes back WWWAAAYYY further then just potential offensives names. Ray Rice is the WFT, they needed to "make an example" once the situation looked like it could hit the bottom line. Hell, even the "missed" taunting in this game. The stupid ass "point of emphasis" was because they missed Hill doing like 10 times last year, then they throw a flag on Winfield when he does it ONCE to Hill. They only care about the $$$$$$ anything else they tell you is lip service.
Sir Diggamus Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 The current overtime rules place too much emphasis on the coin toss and must be changed. Have you guys seen the "spot and choose" proposal? https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/01/24/look-for-spot-and-choose-overtime-to-be-proposed-again/I had not heard of this before. Thanks for sharing. That is an interesting take and one that would definitely seem fair. I have a feeling the team choosing field position would always want to put the ball as far from scoring position as possible, or at the 50, but it does seem like a fair way of doing it.I don’t typically like sudden death scenarios because I think it could give one or another team an advantage, but I do like it the way the article lays it out, because there is a choice. I guess they would pick a spot backed up against the end zone at the 3 yard line (offense would need a 97 yard drive). The Bills would have to choose to play offense or defense from the three, Sudden death rules apply. I love the strategy here. Do the Bills have the guts to take the ball backed up deep? Does Andy Reid go even deeper and put the ball on the 1 yard line? 1
