SPECTACLULAR The HDM news is depressing. I still have a few left. Happy to hear about the DC LE's though. Still have a few of those left! :-D
cvm4 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 None have been smoked out of my box...Glad I haven't tested them yet
Ken Gargett Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 first box almost dead and loved every one. next (and sadly last) box in deep storage. so too the Cohiba DC's, especially after the first lot met their watery grave. i know that friends in havana think that the DC's are possibly the best LE of all, challenged by the sublimes. and there is no rush to smoke either.

SPECTACLULAR Haven't smoked either one. Can't seem to find any. How about selling some of your stock, Rob. Would love to try some of each.:-D
Mel Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I have burned a whole box of the Cohiba DC EL and into the last one. I think they are good but I can not give the accolades some do. I am sure I have smoked them green but they were mine so I did as I pleased. I will let some of the second box mature. I have three of the HDM Piramide left and thought I would let them age. It sounds like that may have been a mistake cause they got better reviews when they were young. So much for the ,all cigars need to be aged to perform well, theory.
shrink Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I have a HDM LE Pirimide on Saturday and felt that the flavour is more and more muted. One of my favourites in 2003/04. Rob - I smoked one of these beauties today. the first in about six months... to test your theory. I can see what you're saying, it isn't as strong and spicy as it was a year ago. All the tannic and peppery elements have mellowed. However, I am more inclined to view it as more "refined" with age, rather than "muted" as you describe. The flavors were sweet aged tobacco, with tropical fruits and berry undertones, and a lightly floral honeysuckle sweetness on the tongue . I would describe the taste as "wine-like" in its complexity, smoothness and finish. The quality of the spice has become subtle, complex and satisfying, but it was a medium bodied smoke at best. Without a doubt, one of the best cigars I have ever enjoyed. A 95!

Damn! Now I'm thinking I should pull one out today to see how mine are doing.I'd love to have them smoking great again. Last time I smoked one, about 7 months ago,I was less than impressed.I was thinking they needed more time....I'd hate to think they'll never be as good as they were a couple of years ago... :-|

Girardian Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Very interesting. I've been wondering about these as well. They are not as aromatic (at least my box) as they once were. I haven't tried one in a *long* time. Perhaps it's time to dip in again so we can get another data point on this thread.

habanohal Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Well, I tried one out last night on a drive home from a B_day party. The flavors broke through like never before. Mine are smokeing better than before. If only I was able to hunt another box down. Only have 15 left

But to be fair, I will give all my boxes of ELs' the same age before smoked to compare.
novasurf Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I smoked the few I got in a split too early.....no control. None left.
argon345 Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 So should i avoid these, or is it possible they will grow with a bit more time?
SeanGAR Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 » I smoked the few I got in a split too early.....no control. None left. None left here either. I did enjoy the ones I had though!
cigardawg Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I have only smoked one...was not impressed. Muted flavor, not a great draw, and poor smoke production. I have one more...hopefully it will be better.
