Well getting to Abu Dhabi is turning out to be fun!  Between Covid tests, getting our Carnet signed, twice, finding out that the online processor for the hotel's payment system does not except American or Canadian cards and that we will need to take care of payment when we arrive, a full 12 hours after our two other contractors check-in and whose room we are contractually required to pay for, and not to mention everything else waiting for us, a cigar and drink (if possible) may be in order.

Any recommendations?

Hey!

We’ve got f1 race coming up this weekend so the city will have endless things to offer! I hope you do enjoy your trip

we’ve a la Casa Del Habano in Abu  Dhabi mall, prices are high but you might be able to score aged stock ( always ask the sales person if the sticks are from the box they keep them in  as they tend to keep the old box and restock from a new inventory). They also keep humidity very high so I wouldn’t smoke it immediately to be honest.

don’t hesitate to send a direct msg if you need anything

The Ritz Carlton Grand Canal in Abu Dhabi has a cigar bar.  They keep cigars on the humidity side and drink are Ritz Carlton priced.

I was in Abu Dhabi for 4.5 years working.  Used to go about once a month to the St. Regis on the Corniche downtown.  Great cigar bar - they used to have cigar dinners on Friday evening where the Chef paired cigars, alcohol and food.  Had some really special meals but, pricy.

No really - typical St. Regis prices.

I know some people have mentioned some hotel bars above.  Technically it's legal but as a guy who will stick out like a foreign tourist there with your wife for work, I'd suggest staying away from alcohol in Abu Dhabi.  You may not get hassled for the drinking specifically, but if there are other issues, like clearing hotel payments or Covid documentation that may be not as THEY want it to be, or anyone you've upset for whatever reason, you may get hassled for that or anything else after you leave the bar, and then you're over a barrel without any assistance with alcohol in your system and the locals calling the cops on you.  To me, drinking just isn't worth it in the UAE, even where it is legal to do so.

Enjoy the F1 races this weekend, go enjoy a nice dinner, and have some soda or sparkling water, and have an enjoyable cigar after!

I spent a few layovers in ADH and always enjoyed my 5-6 days there, best hotels and not a worry ( except a 12 hr night shift flying a shuttle down to Sana'a in  Yemen and back up ). But that was a long time ago - back when my blog was still written in German.

The Emirates Palace hotel is worth a visit by itself - it has a Havana lounge ( was closed when I was there).

We stayed at a nice hotel - the InterContinental - that had a Marina and there was this club with an open air bar, The Yacht Club, which I found to be cozy.

Marina Mall was also a nice place to visit and smoke a cigar open air at the Supreme Cafe.

Found a great Lebanese restaurant in Marina Al Bateen - off the beaten track and superb Mezzes.

Here is an old blogpost from Dec. 2008 with a lot of pictures :

Thanks everyone.  We are still getting into the groove of everything and adjusting.

I will be figuring this place out soon.
