I think this has to be the book to have as my Christmas present this year.

For who does not know Didier Houvenagel he  is first of all a cigar passionate then a master in cigars.He has lived and studied many years in Pinar del Rio and has developed cigars with tobacco from other countries with great success.

Below are his words on the book:

THE CIGAR, FROM SOIL TO SOUL is  318 pages in 2 hard-cover volumes of 11 chapters, and with more than 100 drawings. It is the result of nearly 20 years of work and thoughts, including, lately, 2 years of nearly full-time work.  This book is also the outcome of a collaboration with fantastic copy-editor, layout artist, painters, and printers. 

Books will be available from December but you can purchase them EN PRIMEUR for some  weeks  .

Just got home from a great cigar evening with Didier at our local cigar lounge.

Didier has been a regular visitor here last 12 years and loves the pharmacy, so when he contacted me last week to smoke with a few of us at the pharmacy we decided to change the venue and do it at the lounge as 20 people attended and we still cannot do that at the pharmacy.
Andreas, my pharmacist arranged all and Reiner was happy to have us.

Good to see Didier and talk old times, the new book, his cigars etc. He gave us a long, highly interesting chat and Q&A session that really was outstanding and introduced his new book !

I will have a report on my blog as well as a link to my YT channel of his chat, all in English, in a few days.

Tomorrow Didier and I will walk the dog in the vineyards after breakfast, have a good morning cigar and go to the pharmacy for a private session with Andreas ... he needs some medicine before he continues his German tour ... 🙂

This morning with Didier - walking the dogs, watching the horses, admiring the vineyards and having fun while smoking a good PLPC morning cigar.

Frank and I have been invited to visit his cigar warehouse in Belgium next spring where he will have the books ready for signing and we will spend a good time with him there.

He is on his way to the next event : A Mosel wine tasting 2 hrs from here. Safe travels brother !

I recorded the hour long chat by Didier, it contains some very good details on cigar production, history, quality control, rinsing cigars with water ( only recommended for vintage cigars ) and other tidbits.

Audio quality is not too good first 10 minutes as I was too far away but it improves after that … Enjoy !

I think they're a bit behind schedule. Mine was an advanced copy, which was ready to ship towards the end of February. They were expecting general sales towards mid-February. My guess it everything got pushed back a few months.

[Glass Half Full]

Just received my copy of The Cigar ...from Soil to Soul

Wow!  

I took the late afternoon off to enjoy a good start on it (along with one of Didier's cigars, and then a little extra).  Really enjoying the history in the beginning of Vol. 1, and can't wait to finish (though it will -- thankfully -- take a while   

(Also can't wait to receive AG's book soon!)

I received mine yesterday in NY from the En Primeur lot. Can’t wait to give it its due. The quality of the printing and the binding is very beautiful. Starting to wish I got a scratch and dent copy…I don’t want to open it anywhere near my kids lest they get their child grime on it!

Mine is stuck in NY customs with DHL...they've emailed me 4 separate times asking if it's cigars. My last email response was:

"THIS PACKAGE CONTAINS A BOOK. A BIG OLE' HARDBOUND BOOK ABOUT CIGARS. IT WILL NOT HURT ANYONE."
