Popular Post rcarlson Posted October 3, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 3, 2021 The Edmundo has become a frequent weekend morning smoke. Inconsistent as hell but usually on the mark with a cup of coffee or four for me. This one was middle of the pack. Decent construction. Roll, heft, wrapper, aroma out of the box was all there, all foretelling of nothing. Flavors of the Edmundo run from flat "meh" to quintessential Monte from one stick to the next no matter how good the roll. Initial draws produced plenty of smoke with the smooth, pleasant traditional Monte flavors: cocoa, coffee, vanilla and a tinge of sweetness. Mid to medium body and strength. The creamy increased as it warmed through the first third. Through the middle, the stick opened up the creamy, leather, long milk chocolate that was to be expected. Burn remained even for the most part, but I did have to fuss with it some to sate my burn-line OCD . Finished out with the to-be-expected increased strength, leather fading cocoa and cream. In other words, typical Monte. They never evolve much. If you like the profile like I do, that's just fine. It's a Monte. Overall not a standout. It did it's job. Hopefully, the next will pull more from the flavor department. Not disappointed. It's all just part of surfing the inconsistent Edmundo waves. I'll give this one a "B." 8
karp Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Nice review. What do you think of the Edmundo's consistency compared with the no2? My Edmundo LGB MAY 20 box sounds a lot like what you are describing. Hit or miss. I used to think these more consistent than the no2, actually leaning toward the Edmundo being better, but recent no2 are so good I'm not so sure anymore...

I'm not the most prolific on the No. 2, but it seems to me that they are more consistent within the same box than the Edmundos. Montes in general are inconsistent, and until recently, I've found blind purchasing them a total crapshoot, usually on the downside. In my experience, there's something about the Edmundos that makes them more unpredictable stick by stick than the others. I have no explanation other than maybe there's something about the size. Ain't gonna stop buying them though.
karp Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Ya, it’s weird - when either is on they are very good but the stars don’t align regularly. I had some outstanding Edmundos and no2 this year though, not to mention no1 and the Double Edmundo, which has led me to thinking Monte quality is at a high point now, hence stocking up on these hoping for more.
