Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted September 15, 2021 Popular Post Posted September 15, 2021 if you have access to netflix, the series, 'chef's table' has some interesting stuff for anyone interested in food. as i have said elsewhere, my all time favourite restaurant is 'el cellar can roca' in Girona, north of Barcelona. been 3-4 times and every time, beyond brilliant. on one occasion, when a mate and i were travelling around europe visiting wineries, we booked to go, but it was way out of our way. so i told him that in that case, we were going for dinner and then we were going for lunch the next day. we did the degustation menu for the dinner and next day, i said i would do it again as it was so brilliant. they refused. said i could not do it two days running. instead, they would create an entirely new degustation for me for the day. amazing stuff. no wonder they have been named 'best in the world' several times. but every time i have been, i have the dessert 'journey to havana', even if not on the list that day. it is quite famous so they get that request a fair bit. it comes with a mojito sorbet and a marble astray with a big cigar in it. there is a pile of ash under the cigar. but the cigar is actually ice-cream with a chocolate wrapper and the ash is spices to dip the cigar into. the ice-cream has been made by using a vacuum machine to pump cigar smoke through the ice-cream while it was being made. unbelievable. the first time i went, they were using a partagas D4. not sure if they still do. all of this is featured in the episode on 'can roca'. fantastic stuff. and even better, the restaurant (the new one - they moved down the hill from the old place some years ago) has a magnificent area with a stunning walk-in humidor. that time we did dinner then lunch, we arranged with them to decant a bottle of 77 Taylors for us - they had the poor kitchen hand come in at 6am to do it - and so we knocked that off with an SLR DC. nothing like a good 15 hour lunch. 10 2

wine_junkie Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Good to hear there is hope for upper end dining…I find myself 9.5/10 disappointed with the “Michelin” dining experiences…will have to check this out!
dunhamrocco Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Absolutely enjoyed it. It opened my eyes to a few things; especially the 'Special Period' of the 1990's when the USSR fell and they were on their own in a lot of ways. Since I got a free account on Netflix (read how https://www.firesticktricks.com/how-to-get-free-netflix-account.html ), I have watched tons of good movies.
