A group of Cuban women, neighbors of the Cerro neighborhood, in Havana, went out to protest in the middle of the public thoroughfare , blocking traffic with their refrigerators, yesterday afternoon, Monday, June 28.

According to journalist Mario J. Pentón, a reporter for El Nuevo Herald , who published images of the demonstration on his networks, the protest is due to the "misery and hunger" that is being experienced throughout the island.

A group of Cubans protested this Monday in Havana over the flooding in the Cerro due to heavy rains.

Women and men took their refrigerators, armchairs and other belongings to the street until the police arrived, according to images released on social networks. "They went out to the streets in the Cerro after the water and the flood.

Neither a tiger nor a tiger's grandson passes through here," Ana Sánchez said on Facebook.

Before the police arrived, three women were captured in images next to the refrigerators and three men sitting in armchairs in the middle of Calzada del Cerro.

The Cubans were peacefully on the street until the police arrived to break up the protest and remove their belongings from the street.

In a video released by the independent media CiberCuba you can see how the police officers struggled with the protesters.

The car drivers whistled in the street when the struggle between the police and several people occurred, while several Cubans shouted "you cannot touch them. That is abuse.

" Those present prevented the police from taking a woman away. In the images you can see several motorcycles of the PNR, the 1062 patrol and at least six policemen.

In Havana there have been strong floods for days, which will continue this Tuesday in the West and Center of Cuba, according to the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET).

However, several Cubans commented that the floods in that area of Cerro, near La Covadonga Hospital, have not been resolved for years.

"This is Cerro Cerrao, two blocks from my house. Someone has to stop this. Since I was a child, Mr. Joe has always been flooded by the disgusting ditch that runs through there. It was about time they did. Too many unanswered complaints now have to be answered just because, "said Jenny Jonar.

It is not the first time that a protest has occurred in the same area of El Cerro known as Mister Joe.

In December 2018, residents of that barracks in Havana protested for almost an hour also due to a flood, Cubanet reported then. "We have lost things on several occasions, many government representatives have come to see the situation, but on the third day they forget and no one gives a solution," Raúl Oviedo told the aforementioned source.

A group of women went out to protest Monday afternoon at Calzada del Cerro, in Havana, after their homes were completely flooded by the heavy rains of the day. The photograph of three of them stopping traffic on the avenue with their furniture and refrigerators quickly spread through social networks.

"They went to the street because the lot was flooded again and everything got wet," a neighbor in the area told 14ymedio. The women are residents of a barracks known as "Mister Joe's solar", after the name of a cafeteria at the entrance, located on Calzada del Cerro, between Auditor and San Pablo.

The women's protest was broken up by the police, who immediately showed up at the scene, both on motorcycles and on patrol cars. However, according to one of the videos that circulated on the networks, the neighbors and some passers-by supported them when the officers intervened.
