PLMC pre 2002

CCW says Montecarlos were machine made pre 2002.

There's a box on BR from 2000 that says handmade:

I'm guessing the years are a bit off on CCW?

I noticed these this morning but I hadn't thought about it until now.

Best guess is CCW does state the HM version was released circa 2002, so perhaps they were actually released in late 2000? Seems a bit early to me though...but possible I suppose. They may have existed concurrently with the old MM version for a year or so. 

I will say I'd be very wary of how a Deliciosos made in 2000 would draw...

Just last week we referred an example of Cohiba Siglo VI Tubos from 2006 to the Habanos Knowledge group because according to the best information available to us (CCW) they were released c2008.

One of the distributors who is a member of the Habanos Knowledge group was able to confirm on their system that they received their first mastercase of Siglo VI tubos in May 2004!

Well spotted. Nothing about that box looks off to me.

Also, I'm not sure why anyone would bother fake a box of panetelas from Nov 2000.

Saw fake Cuaba Churchills in a shop in the Grand Bahamas years back. Back then they were perfectos only at the time. Plus all the Cohibas had the same serial number.

Prior to 2001, there was a fully machine-made version, and a machine-bunched-hand-finished version of the MC. Somewhat deceptively, machine-bunched hand-finished cigars had totalente a mano stamped on the bottom. As far as CCW is concerned, it considers both versions to be machine-made, with the handmade version coming later. Source is MRN book.

So that's what the BR box is, machine-bunched hand-finished.

The MRN book is current as of 2002, and doesn't make any mention of a handmade version. CCW started in 2006, and by that time the MC was handmade. The machine-made cigars were phased out in the early 2000s but there was overlap, so the 2002 release date is a bit fuzzy, hence the "circa." In any event, it was after 2002 and before 2006, probably towards the earlier end of the range.

Not really sure how this one was introduced.

When CCW first launched in 2006 it already included the Siglo VI in tubes, although didn't have a release date for them. The note that they were introduced in 2008 got added to the site in early 2011. My best guess is it was a typo which has gone unnoticed until now.

In any event, I have fixed it. Cheers for pointing it out.

Very interesting, that's the first time I've seen an actual connection between Monaco and the PL Montecarlo. Do you know the story?

I had thought it was another name that was created to represent "fine living" like "Londres Finos" etc.

no I just saw them for sale a few years back,  and I just thought,  "Ah now it makes sense"

If they had been created at the request of the Prince there, I'm sure the boxes would have displayed that at some stage. For example, most of the boxes of Hoyo de Monterrey Royal Hunt have an interior sticker that mentions something about "created expressly for Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands..", I forget the exact language used.

not sure of the date of the box, but the first grand prix in Montecarlo was 1929, maybe something to do with that

Yep make the cab out of F1 grade carbon fibre, and give it 'go faster stripes'.   Having wrote that, it saddens me, that that would actually sell.

Love the bands though, sheer class

Reintroducting the side labels would also add a touch of class,  I think it looked great when they did it with the Gran Cano

it wouldn't be done on a PLMC.  Maybe a corona throwback 50 cab. Lancero it was called from memory.

Can you imagine the "I've been short changed emails" if a new re-release of a Lancero came out, if it was in fact a corona size?   It would be mayhem.   People refusing their deliveries, with I've been scammed rants to follow.
