Bijan Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Does anyone see similarities between unrelated cigars of the same vitola/size at times? It happens to me every now and again and sometimes I'm convinced it's just my mind playing tricks on me and other times I think it's real. Tonight I lit up a 2019 Siglo III and it started out with the same exact vanilla flavour I got from the start of a 2001 Hoyo des Dieux. Both Coronas Grandes. This one less weird as both can have vanilla flavours. Another one I think was a delusion was a Fonseca no. 1 that reminded me of the same size RyJ Cazadores. Two cigars which couldn't me more dissimilar. 1
Bri Fi Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Not sure if this is answering the question or making it more complicated, but I’ve had boxes of cigars (RASS/BRC) that every stick is something different in the flavor department. There’s little consistency with some boxes. Especially the 2016/2017 boxes I own. Not sure if the quality control issues cuba has includes the rollers messing blends up. good question. Congrats on the new job btw 3

That's an interesting question. Sometimes I think it's the cigar/vitola. Some have split personalities. Cohibas sometimes vary between grass/hay and bean flavours in the same box. Hoyo du député is sometimes spicy/savoury and sometimes sweet and creamy. Other times like RASS/BRC I think the vitola isn't really known for that kind of variation. 5 minutes ago, Bri Fi said: good question. Congrats on the new job btw Thanks! Just passed the background check 😂 starting in two weeks.
sonarman81 Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 That’s wild about the No. 1 and the Cazadores. Was the No. 1 full (or more near) bodied or vice versa?
griller Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 About a month ago I had a PL Picadores from 2016 (I think) and a 2019 Siglo II within a week of each other. The Siglo was outstanding, and exhibited all the refined flavors that are frequently described here. Days later, light up the Picadores and I could swear I was smoking that Siglo II again for at least the 1st half of the PL. Definitely wasn't expecting that but would call it a "happy accident" to borrow the Bob Ross phrase... 1

It was the first of each I had had. The RyJ was sweater than it should have been and the Fonseca no. 1 fuller too. 1
DeskSmkr Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Legitimate from my perspective, yes. I hadn't noticed the vitola correlation, though I agree you do find this. Finished a cigar the other day: cohiba bean on the initial light, some montecristo + H Upmann + RyJ semblances over the duration. Like a spumoni ice cream? Might have been a JLP Petit Cetros? Also Cohiba bean when lighting a VR Don Alejandro. Finally got the peanut butter, mentioned as a characteristic for other marcas, in a Monte #2 of all things, a couple days ago; total epiphany and nice surprise. Wasn't there the entire cigar, only a brief appearance to treat the senses. 2
