I have seen copper lined humidors before. Does anyone know the reasoning for the use of copper lining?

I saw one of these on Facebook marketplace and was wondering the same thing.

Copper is a pretty good antibacterial/antiviral surface and is cheaper than silver, maybe something to do with that? No idea how it fares against mold though which I imagine would be the main concern with cigars...

The Zenith amplifiers behind it are of more interest to me. The pre-amp and power tubes are worth more than the cab. Musician, just saying...

Is the closer Zenith a shortwave radio?  Looks like one my Grandma had with the different frequency bands

This will be not much use for anyone else. The pre-amp tubes are likely a 12AU7 with a couple of 12AX7’s. If the power tubes are old 2355’s, (American, RCA, AMPEREX, etc.) they are worth more by themselves...

I’ve seen them as well, although not in this good of condition.   I figured it’s because it’s probably the easiest type of sheet metal for a wood worker to work with.

I always thought it was looks.  What was the humidification element back then?

From Wikipedia:

“An innovation in antimicrobial surfaces is the discovery that copper and its alloys (brasses, bronzes, cupronickel, copper-nickel-zinc, and others) are natural antimicrobial materials that have intrinsic properties to destroy a wide range of microorganisms.”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimicrobial_surface

I imagine that, whether anyone knew the chemical reasoning at the time, they noticed that mold didn’t seem to grow on copper and so it was a good choice to insulate humidors.
