Year 63 of Cuba’s socialist revolution: The sugar harvest

May 16, 2021 by Alberto de la Cruz

“Is this a sample from the sugar harvest?”

“No, General . . . that is the sugar harvest.”

Looked like sth else tbh...

According to this, tobacco products have a slight lead.  From 2019

https://www.worldstopexports.com/cubas-top-10-exports/

$332.9 million - tobacco

$295.9 million - sugar

I’m surprised.  I thought sugar would have had a huge lead.

Not sure which is more “valuable” from a profit perspective.

Also note that sugar probably doesn’t include rum.  That would be in the “Beverages, spirits, vinegar: $121.2 million” category.  I would guess the vast portion of that category is rum.

Also 2019 is old for Cuba. Going downhill pretty fast.

I'm fairly certain it would be sugar since they have to share 50% of the cigar profits with Gemstone.
