El Presidente Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Thursday last week and there were 4 guys on the deck + myself. They had finished a work project and one of the crew shouted the others a cigar to be smoked on the top deck. Well into the first third and they all agreed the cigar was excellent. Then one of them said "I am getting some beautiful baked apple coming through". That piqued my interest. Baked apple notes in a cigar. From the attached list, pick two that you believe that flavour profile most relates to? I will let you now what they were enjoying this time tommorrow
mprach024 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Baked apple. Interesting. None of the above? Maybe a JL2 or RAG.....maybe and that’s a stretch. RASS is more raisin/date. Never had a Regio. Esplendido is more citrus. Quai d’Orsay is more awful. Mag 50 is more peach. Connie B I’ve never had but other Connies typically are more buttery. Sig V is more honey/lemon. 1
Corylax18 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I thought Long and Hard. I can't remember every tasting baked apple in a cigar. Cinnamon? Sure Tart, Green Apple? Maybe. But not Baked apple. 1
Habana Mike Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Opus X about the only I've had that was reminiscent of apple pie so pass. Included the baking spices.
Fuzz Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Baked apple? Not sure. But I do know, if I was handing out Esplendidos, @Luca would be round my place with a plate of baklava.😂 3
Boxer31 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I picked RASS but when you said baked apple - thought apple pie and RAG first came to mind. but could see RASS also with that flavor.
Edicion Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I haven't identified this baked apple before I think. Let me smoke one of each on the list and report back! should be done in about 20 min or so.
99call Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I think a aged Mag 50 does possess a baked fruit aspect. And whether your cooking apples or peaches. Or apricots in butter and brown sugar the aroma is fairly similar. Sort of a rich buttery vanilla spiced fruitiness
CaptainQuintero Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Not something that I've come across but sounds interesting
Jimmy_jack Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Man I wish I had the palate of some smokers. There’s a guy on YT, CutLightSmoke. He comes up with the craziest flavors.

westg Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 First choice SLR Regio Second choice SLR Regio. Multiple times. I remember having a chuckle when you mentioned it one day. Then I purchased a 50 can of you... Bingo I found it . Green Apple 🍏 baked apple 1

Most of it is pontification. Regardless of source. I find cigar aficionado's tasting notes comical. Its never "Vanilla" its gotta be "Madagascan Vanilla Bean" not "Mango" but "Dried Tahitian Mango" Blah Blah Blah. My favorite though and one my Dad and I still joke about regularly is "Lead Pencil" Most of these guys are MUCH better at creative writing than they are at utilizing their palates. 2
EnigmatiC Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I’ll go RASS because that’s a flavor I get on most of them and Regios only because I’ve heard others say this (although I taste mostly berries).
Islandboy Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I’ve definitely had a bright, crisp fruit flavor like apple from SLR Regios - even apple strudel. Never from RASS...that’s all stewed prune to me, and despite several attempts, we just don’t get along. My next pick was QDO 54 with its lighter nuanced profile, although I don’t recall ever pinpointing apple per se.
