Do you have a secret credit card for cigar purchase?

My wife is not against me smoking cigars. My concern is her attitude may change after she learned that most of my cigars cost more than 5 bucks.

This is why I need a credit card like this, to keep the world a little more peaceful.

Nope, I respect myself and my wife enough that I don't need to keep that kind of secrets.. No offense though.

How does that even work? Do you get a separate salary on to that account? If not, she would/should notice a weird dark hole that sucks money out of the account(s)

We have joint account and yes my paycheck goes to the checking about. I started some small business many years ago, 2/3 goes to joint account and the rest goes to my own secret account.

Well my wife knows the existence of the account. I just do not want her to know I buried so much money over the years.

Ok, gotta give it to you.. That's clever! Sorry for my first reply, I didn't take into consideration that I haven't gotten deep into buying boxes for current, and longer term storage.

So... We'll just have to see how this develops :D

No special card other than no foreign transaction fees on purchases.  Wife can figure it out quite easily without looking at a statement.

Haha, my wife blows more money per month on the Amex than I do. I don’t think she even looks at the statement. Moral high ground!

Forgot to mention that my secretary reconciles my OOP reimbursements on the same statement....she’s well acquainted with terms like wollabonga and various Swiss names.

Surprisingly, when I was married, she didn't really care about my Cigar purchases and I was buying a lot of boxes on a regular basis.

I made good money then working in the oilfields, so she bought plenty of what she wanted too, which is likely why she didn't complain.

Damn, I miss my 5ft by 5ft cabinet humidor I built out of a used curio cabinet.
Was nice to have all that storage space and it held great temperature and rh

Now Relegated to a large desktop humidor and 4 tupperdors.

I do have a Cigar buying credit card, it's actually my wife's credit card. She doesn't want me to waste money on foreign transaction fees and it so happens that she has a travel card while I have mostly cash back cards.

Our setup is pretty much what @FrancisK7 described: we have a joint account and we each have our personal accounts. We put all the income into the joint account to pay for joint living expenses, at the end of each month we take what is left after everything is paid off and we split it 50/50 and move it to our personal accounts. The personal accounts are used to pay off personal expenses like cigars for me or gardening for her, so it doesn't matter which credit cards we put the charges on. We don't care about each other expenses because they come out of our personal accounts, and we always pay off our cards at the end of each month.

Pooling all income not only feels last century but it is a 100% guarantee for a lifetime of very unpleasant arguments. IMHO.

We married in our 30s and were both established in our professions with our own incomes.

We had separate accounts and credit cards and kept it that way.

We set up an arrangement where each of us is responsible for our own credit card bills and we identified who would pay which household and other bill.

This has worked well for more than twenty years--as long as all the bills get paid everything is good.

We also have our own retirement accounts.

She has her "hobbies" and I have mine--no issue there.

We have one other key "trick" that makes it all work.   We have chosen to live below our means (in terms of big ticket items like house, vehicles, vacations).

This. Exactly how we do it.

We do the same.  Each is free to spend on whatever they like, no matter how ridiculous it sounds, with zero bickering about money other than an occasional joke.  It works well.

surprised how many folks have separate accounts and consider money "hers" or "theirs". whatever makes a happy life works. There is no right answer.

Kelly hasn't worked since we moved to GA over 25 years ago, has always been able to spend how she likes - she is on the frugal side though, so that's good.

She know I regularly spend money on cigars, can't hide the Staebell humidor, wine cooler, 2 marine coolers and a half dozen other storage systems from her.

Rarely made a comment about my cigar spending or on other hobbies, hasn't made a peep about cigars since a $700 box of 4-5 year old cigars (Bushidos) went for over $2,100 on FOH Auctions.

And she never looks at the statements or accounts.

In Islam, any money a woman earns is hers and hers alone. Any money her husband earns is also hers. So technically i have no money... i still spend lots on cigars though 🤣I asked for permission to buy cigars once. She said no. So i didnt ask again. Now parcels jsut turn up and she gets mad cos she has ot open the door for the thrid parcel arriving for the day. No doubt i will one day be murdered in my sleep. Please let this post forever be saved here for her trial.

I took a screenshot for you. No worries. Show her my reply here and she might think twice before pulling it off.

Almost seems like we were competing for a while as to who can have more packages delivered. She’s winning now as I haven’t bought anything in a while.  I think it’s time I step up my game again.

I find more irony in keeping my credit card to myself, yet Diana here has my card, my pin, and full access to spend away.  Though I'm sure purchases shipped to Australia will trip the old fraud alert!  Apparently I trust my cigar family over my real family :)

I have my own credit cards, I guess there is one credit card account we do share but not certain why.  All the money I make goes into the same checking and saving accounts which are joint.  I honestly don't even know what amounts my paychecks come in.  I attempt to only buy as many cigars as my side hustle will pay for, but if that doesn't work I don't stop spending.  I buy what I want to buy and have for 22 years of marriage.  She does the same.
