Yep. Best one was the one where you hit the platform with a sledgehammer, sending a metal block up a slide towards a bell.

Ring the bell, get a cigar. 1cm away would be close, but no cigar..... So, about as close as one could get to winning without actually winning.

I know this from watching cartoons in my youth. Appeared in many episodes of different shows.

Bill was an early adopter of the dipped/wet wrapper cigar.  Wonder what kind of enhanced flavor he was going for...

It is for when someone shows you a nice box of cigars, you look at them closely, examine the box, the bands, the codes, ask on the FOH forum, and everything tells you they are fake Cuban cigars. Hence the meaning, close but no cigar.😆
