A few years ago, I flew back up to Mpls. to go to the Vikings/Seahawks playoff game at UofM stadium. The new Vikes stadium was still under construction. Having lived in Fla. since the ‘80’s, I had become unclimatized. Tickets were available (shockingly) because the forecast was for the coldest playoff game in NFL history. When I got out of the rental car at 11:30 a.m., it was -13f. I froze my way to the end of the game, when the Vikings had the ball at Seattle’s 12 yard line with mere seconds to go. The crowd were on their feet as the field goal team went out onto the field...

The crowd was cheering loudly as the ball was snapped for the 29 yard kick, sending the Vikings to the championship game then on to the bowl. I couldn’t see it, but suddenly the crowd went silent. No, he couldn’t have missed that! ?

Final: Seattle 10 Vikings 9.

That will be the last time I shall ever see below zero weather! ?

I hear you, there's few things worse than freezing your tail off while your team gets beat.  Happens pretty often here lately, ugh!  Back in the old days at the old soldier field, I went to a game at the end of December and we parked near the Adler Planetarium which is on a near mile-long peninsula that sticks out into Lake Michigan.  The walk back to the car from the game with wind blowing over the ice and across that peninsula is the second coldest I've ever been (Marquette, MI in February a few years ago to see sled dog racing was number 1).  I could stay home and watch the Bears from the comfort of my heated garage but my wife loves going to Bears games so we go to at least one a year.  I try to find games with the weakest opponents or on warm weather days.

The last game we went to in 2019, the Bears were down 2 points and took a knee on 2nd and 3rd down at about the 30 yard line to run time off the clock before a game winning field goal try rather than attempt to get a first down and get closer.  Inevitably, they lined up for the field goal, kick is up, time goes to zero, no good.  The PA announcer said nothing, the big screen turned off.  Not a sound in the entire stadium, game over, we lose.  Thankfully, it wasn't below zero.

I enjoy winter to some extent so I'm not ready for the move to Florida or Georgia or wherever quite yet....but I'm getting closer, that's for sure.  My folks are still alive and they live in Greensboro, Georgia.  My dad can't wait to call me up on cold days to give me shit about the weather while he brags about heading out to play nine holes....I love that jerk ?
