I'm sure most of you are aware that Cuba is going into a Phase 4 or whatever they want to call it shut down. International travelers once again have to go to a specific hotel complex and quarantine there for 5 days after February 6. Nationals arriving by plane have to go to some warehouse in the countryside and sit it out with no family or visits for a 10 day period. A buddy of mine just came back and had to do another COVID test to get on the plane. 7 hours waiting in El Vedado and the test could not be paid in any currency($30 US), it had to be paid with a debit card. He helped out some folks that were in line that did not have a debit card on them. The results were given the next day. Everything is mostly shut down, if any restaurant was open it was "to go". They are still accepting CUC, CUP for cigars in some stores but all will eventually phase that out to USD. The CUP was trading at 40:1 in larger amounts and as much as 80:1 in the countryside. Many of the people in the food lines are re-sellers hoping to make a few dollars out of the situation. American will have 3 flights on Mondays MIA-HAV (one of them is a rescue flight), but word is there are many cancellations after the 6th on this news. Some are saying Cuba is on a crash course to become a mini-Russia of the 90's, except no one is willing to give you $100 for a pair of Levis. John
