El Presidente Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Up on BR currently. Tasting notes? I can't recall having smoked one. 2
JohnS Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Furthermore, despite that iteration of the La Corona Petit Coronas being machine-made, it is literally a first-generation example of the marca being re-introduced in 1989 (it lasted until 1999 when the marca was discontinued) as the box code is from January 1989. 1 1
xelzh Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 This is actually available in my local cigar lounge but it's $400 per stick.

avaldes Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I had one, it must have been more than 13 years ago since it was before my kids. Given to me by a friend of mine as a "nice extra" to go along with from P155's I got from him. It was from '89 and it was really good. I can't really remember the exact tasting notes, besides nice earthy old school cuban tobacco. 1

Popular Post PigFish Posted January 27, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2021 I used to smoke these by the ton... I recall getting them for $30~$40 a box depending on exchange rates. I just looked for a box, I know I have more but I don't know where they are. What are they like, '91s are in your face. Straight tobacco, maybe straight top leaves, dense smoke, easy draw even when packed hard. Plenty of tobacco 'scraps' to fit between the gaps in your teeth!!! No real nuance, a real barn burner through and through. You can taste it though just about anything. Been up 24 hours and on your 10th cigar, you will still taste this cigar! It is an all night at the 'strip club' cigar! I used to really like them, but that was when I was smoking several cigars a day. Find one a little off, well at less than $2 a stick chuck it and unzip another. No metallic taste like the NC 'steampunks.' I would have to say it is like smoking 5 or 6 Partagas Chicos at the same time... but stronger! Chicos actually taste better! MHO... It has the highest constitution of any Cuban cigar in my memory. Cheers! -Piggy 2 4 1

Popular Post Ryan Posted January 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2021 I took one for the team here. Not a petit corona but I have an opened box of La Corona Panetelas from 1991 and lit one up this evening. As Pigfish says, these used to be available at a steal from Switzerland up until about 10-12 years ago. I haven't seen a box on a retailer's shelf in at least 10 years though. Nice aroma at cold, leathery. Rustic wrapper as you can see. Draw a bit tight on lighting but fine. Very strong, lots of pepper on the nose. Some floral aromas coming through the strength every now and then. Two thirds in after about 30 mins and I'm giving up on blowing out through the nose as it's so strong. Last third now and it's getting a little bitter, though with some coffee notes now. I'm smoking it with neat rum, the one I'm most familiar with, and it's overpowering everything. Yesterday, I smoked a 2012 shop-rolled panetela from the Habana Libre hotel. That was volado only in the filler, no seco and no ligero and that stood up very well to strong back coffee. Actually, just lovely. brought me right back to Havana. This one is a different kettle of fish. This one overall. Straightforward, strong rustic tobacco with some leather at the start and a few floral hints, slightly bitter coffee at the end. At this rate they'll age forever, though not necessarily get much better. Not worth $400 each but I wouldn't be upset at all if I paid £25 for this in London or anywhere else, just to see how a 30 year old discontinued cigar is performing. Tonight, I've talked the wife into a Cuban movie night. "Soy Cuba - Siberian Mammoth", followed by "Soy Cuba" followed by "Siberian Mammoth" again. Not sure if she'll make it through the second viewing of the documentary. I'll be having a 1998 Punch Monarca and some more of this rum. 4 2
