Pornhub sued for $52 million in damages

In a statement to the ABC last week, the company said Pornhub employs "a vast team of human moderators dedicated to manually reviewing every single upload, a thorough system for flagging, reviewing and removing illegal material, robust parental controls, and a variety of automated detection technologies".

Meh, I used to write reviews for mail order catalogues. I'd get sent boxes of VHS tapes to review that week for the next month's mail out. After the first 4 hours of watching, you start hitting the fast forward button and skip a lot of stuff. Sometimes the acting is actually better than the porn. Reviewing gonzo tapes were the worst.

How does one find this type of work? 19 year old me would happily put in overtime in this job.

I answered an ad on a notice board at Uni asking for people with the following criteria:

Role

• You’ll be responsible for wordsmithing a vast array of different types of content from films, magazines, equipment reviews, etc
• You’ll work from briefs provided by other members of our team and over time you’ll also be included in producing briefs yourself
• You’ll need to be comfortable with the subject matter – our customers are connoisseurs!
• This is very much an output role – we have developed a methodology to quantify and qualify the content we produce and you’ll be working to that criteria.

Skills:

• You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and have an infectious positive attitude
• A detailed understanding what it takes to produce great content
• Exceptional communication, organisational and time management skills
• To be very aware of branding and commit to staying true to our brand and values.

Yeah, nah. Just kidding. It actually was an ad I saw on a notice board at Uni. They were just looking for someone interested in working on writing reviews for a catalogue. It was one of the only ads that nobody had ripped off a phone number tag to call, so I thought I'd have the best chance of getting the job. When I called, they interviewed me over the phone. They didn't say what I would be reviewing until about halfway through the call. Original pay offer wasn't that much to do the reviews (but hey, free porn), and they also gave me a job selling stuff from the catalogue (nice little commission). I kinda suggested I would be good at it, since I was at Uni and had access to many potential customers.
