mprach024 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Very very cool piece of history here. I love Grant, one of my favorite historical characters, a very underrated President as well. Loads of great stories about him as a President during Reconstruction that should be told in more mainstream arenas, he wasn’t just a great General. Thanks for sharing Pres. 2
StogieSteve23 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Grant, the miniseries on History Channel is a great one to watch for anyone who enjoys presidential and war history. Very interesting and entertaining. 1

Check out what I just got. i was a huge fan of steadman till i met him. utter tosser of a bloke. i had a series of fantastic wine posters from him on my wall in london at the time. after meeting him, packed them all away. never seen them again. i went to a booking signing - a friend was a huge fan of his (she had met hunter S and lived nearby his favourite bar in colorado for a while) and of alice in wonderland and he had just illustrated a big volume of alice. so a signed copy was the perfect gift for her. steadman was unbelievably pompous but i figured, his book signing, can be what he wants to be. i also brought my old copy of fear and loathing along to get signed. which he did. then i asked him about the cover - the car he has drawn is right hand drive. i asked why. big mistake. he told me because it was imported. i pointed out that no one imported american cars into america. i was not trying to be a smartarse, just wanted to know why he had drawn it that way. then he told me because it was a hired car. i pointed out that still made no sense. americans were hardly likely to hire out right hand drive vehicles in america. and so on. became obvious that there was no reason. he had just got it wrong and no one had ever noticed, or at least said anything. given his temper, i could see why. so in the end, he told me to F off and threw me out of the book signing (who on earth gets thrown out of a book signing by the author for showing an interest in his work?). we shared a few words on our respective opinions of each other and i have never touched a thing he has drawn ever since. even got myself a 'clean' copy of fear and loathing. and let me assure anyone wondering, two fat blokes yelling at each other in a small genteel london bookstore is not an edifying sight, nor my finest moment. but i still can't stand the bloke. 1 4

I try to learn as little as possible about artists whose work I enjoy for exactly this reason. I love Jerry Garcia as a guitarist, but understand he was not the nicest guy either. Hunter thompson, too, had his issues as an individual. Steadman sure draws stuff I like to look at tho. 1
