Popular Post Meklown Posted December 7, 2020 Popular Post Posted December 7, 2020 I didn't manage to score any of the samplers, but luckily I managed to get one box of the Supremos in a previous 24:24. (Posting this review late) Yesterday was my birthday so I thought I deserved a nice stick. The weather has also turned beautiful here recently, and it was a perfect excuse to go out for brunch and have a smoke. I had previously picked out the ugly duckling of the box. The rest will go into longer term aging! This one had a slightly cut wrapper that you can see in the last picture. Started brunch with some oysters (forgot to take a picture), and then an eggs benedict with a beautifully orange yolk, followed by a burger. Started my smoke after the burger. Aroma at cold was really nice. Chocolate and a bit of baking spices. I thought it didn't smell as chocolatey as one would expect a monte EL to - I still have some of the 10s and 16s and they are both chocolate bombs. This actually goes in a slightly different direction with the spice. In fact, the wrapper is slightly rosado but it's hard to capture in the picture. Upon lighting it was similar to the cold aroma. Chocolate, some spices to complement, creamy, a hint of nutmeg. It was well balanced and refined, and a rather elegant stick. Strength was medium or maybe a touch under. It was really a beautiful day out. An inch into the cigar, my chocolate souffle arrived (also forgot to picture). Set it down while I enjoyed my souffle. It was coming together nicely. Continued the cigar after the souffle and ordered a glass of Trockenbeerenauslese Ortega. The colour in that glass was incredible. Tasted fantastic as well with prunes and raisins. Wasn't overly sweet (or maybe just hiding behind the balance), and complemented the Supremos well. Overall the cigar had little evolution throughout the stick. I also felt that it needed some time for the flavours to develop more to exhibit themselves. While it was young it didn't display any rough edges. Hoping that in a few years it will develop into something balanced and flavourful. Rating 85/100. Burn required a few touchups on the wrapper. Very elegant, balanced, but flavors could be more prominent. Given some time I expect it to develop further. 23
