They will be ok at this point but not what it will end up being.... I usually try to smoke one after 90 and then every few months after to see where I like them and how they r developing. We all have diff tastes.

I like em both but RASCC is an all time favorite. I like them young and old. The RGP boxes have been a little bit less consistent. When I was married I would have them shipped to different addresses. She didn't have a clue

I have a half dozen boxes ranging from 2011 original release to now .......the older boxes are some of my absolute favorite smokes in my entire collection

Yes, the first batch of 11/12 were very good. I'm not sure they ever got back to that level.

They're still very good, and a great value, but I personally prefer Monte 5.

Through 3 boxes of 2013s.....by far the best of the lot

Did they have the old bands?

Wait...checking my notes...my memory may be off.

I have LOA OCT 14 as the best I had at 93-94 points. Runner up LEM MAR 12. By far the worst were PMS ABR 15.

According to CCW bands changed around 2010 so would be before the Perlas were released in 2012, and Perlas always had the new band.

The LEM MAR 12 I had did have the old bands. I was surprised to see that. They apparently used the rest up on the Perlas. And the Perlas are listed as a 2012 release but there were plenty with 11 codes out there.

Good to know!

I knew all the discontinued vitolas were the old band. And the RGPC and RGPE had both bands depending on the year. But I didn't know about the Perlas having the old band at first.

@ATGroom to potentially update https://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand/rafael-gonzalez#perlas

Edit: Thanks to my google skills I managed to find a picture of both side by side on the forum: https://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/topic/129879-rafael-gonzalez-perlas-question/?do=findComment&comment=751807

Edit 2: According to that thread the 2012 are old band and 2013 are new band, but unclear when exactly it switched.

He does state circa 2010, and I'm sure the PCs all had them by 11. I could see changing it to circa 2011 as all 2011 Perlas still had the old bands.

Oh yeah I don't mean that part with the two band styles and the years with circa. More the:

Bands:
Standard band B.

rather than:

Bands:
Standard band A, B.

under the Perlas listing.

I think that would be best, yes. I think he's using 2010 as "introduction date", which is fine. Just annotating the Perlas to have band A and B would probably be the best way to handle it.

I'll also add that my LEM MAR 12s were petacas. I could be wrong, but don't the band A Perlas in that pic look much more rounded than the band Bs? Perhaps they were using the remaining stock of band As up on Perlas destined for petacas to better conceal them.

I don't know what you would think of RGP, really personal preference, and I don't know anything about superiores to compare, which at best, would be a subjective opinion anyway.

RGP I find complex, drier less sweet, astonishingly good or austere at times, distinct and gentle notes of multiple marcas, bigger cigar in a smaller package

RASCC sweeter baking spice and more robust flavor, more desert in my mind, also offering interesting complexity

Both excellent choices, and both written about online with well regard from multiple posts

Hi @Bijanand @NSXCIGAR.

Yep, will edit Perlas to add band A and B. Don't know how common it was but sounds like a few got out there. As you've said, new band was introduced in 2010 so shouldn't have been on the Perlas, but two year transition period with bands is normal so I guess some overlap.

As for the release date... did a bit of internet archaeology. The earliest mentions of them on this forum was a post from Rob in August 2011 announcing them for 2012, and then a later posts in March and May of 2012 from people looking forward to them asking when they'd be released. The first review comes in June. So, perhaps there were boxes rolled in 2011 with 2011 codes but it sounds like they didn't see market until 2012 sometime.
