Partagas Lusitania UEB ABR 19 (49NRW)

I think I’ll use this review week to sample a couple of double coronas. First up the Lusitania.

It’s not too clear from the pictures but there is a reddish tint to the wrapper. The draw is absolutely perfect.

The cigar starts like a D4; body is medium full, and sourdough and paprika notes. As the first third settles in, the dough turns sweeter, and the paprika turns to baking spice. By the end of the first third the cigar has a very nice cake character, with vanilla spice through the retrohale. Body is still medium full.

In the second third it’s very sweet; a milky coffee joins the fray, and the spice takes its departure. Coffee cake is the predominant flavour. There are intermittent citrus notes, and the retrohale reminds me of a really good dark rum. Body is now medium.

In the final third the flavours transition and become much darker: the citrus disappears, a nuttiness emerges, and the coffee loses the milk. There’s an earthy note in the background, and a slight touch of bell pepper. The sweet cake hangs around, but it’s very much in the background now. The sweetness is still there on the retrohale, but it now takes the form of liquorice. The body ramps back up to medium full.

Overall this was very enjoyable; a 92 now, and I suspect it will be better with more rest.

Lovely. I get a lot of sweetness in these too. Not cloying, just very attractive and wrapped up with a lot of other complexity. Wish I had the time and environment to smoke more DCs.

Nice review Shatner.  I just adore Lusitanias, always so satisfying.  This pics look like you had a lovely example too.  47 ring gauge though right?

Great review! Sounds like the transitions were fantastic. I have a few that are also UEB but from a couple months earlier. I may need to break out one very soon.
