Airbnb’s Cuba Operations Focus of Treasury Department Review

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is investigating Airbnb’s compliance with U.S. sanctions on Cuba, the company revealed this week. The company said that it had received cautionary letters from OFAC and could face “significant” lawsuits and fines.

Mods please admonish the Original poster for a violation- Talking US politics ?

But seriously, for me this falls into the category of the OFAC having nothing better to do?

I’m gonna go ahead and say Hotel Nacional isn’t quite what I’d say an Airbnb/Expedia Support for the Cuban People exchange should be...Prepare to pay up...?

I booked my last 3 or 4 trips in casa particulars through AirBnB....

so much easier on my end vs the older bedsincuba and such site.

However I heard from a few locals that getting the money for them was harder.

So I guess I am ok with going back to the old system and handing over money directly

The ones I've booked always provided their direct contact info in the event I wanted to stay there again. Saves us both a CUC or two....

And once the site is prohibited from booking in Cuba I'll have a backup.

We stay with the same family every visit. Money well spent.
