MoeFOH Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Every week we're going to have a poll about a certain quote and who said it. Could be a famous quote from history, a line from a movie or a song, the opening line to a novel, something very topical, etc... We'll create a poll with the quote and a question based on it, from the answer options you just have to pick the correct one. Voters who pick correctly go into the draw for an El Pres Sampler!! (Drawn Tuesday morning, Brisbane time. Please note: Polls don't show on Tapatalk, but you can participate via a web version of the site) NO GOOGLING!! And it may not help you anyway - depending on how tricky we get with the question. We're using the honour system. It's just a bit of fun. If you know, you know. If you don't, have a stab in the dark or an educated guess (if you prefer that term ). You may elaborate about your choice in the topic thread below if you wish but no posting of anything that gives the answer away to those who haven't voted. Now you know the drill, vote away! Good luck!!
mprach024 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Ironically I couldn’t get airplanes quote but this one I know, great book I read that not long ago.
Bijan Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I've been watching the movies these past few weeks, and was going to read the books, but if it's the opening line, I feel that would be really cheating... 1

I definitely got it wrong then... Better not be the one I actually did read Edit: Looks like it was one of the other two!
sho671 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 I recognize two of the titles from the movies with the same title and picked the movie that I liked more. I’m not much of a reader, so I have absolutely no idea if that line was in either book.
ChangBang Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 Only heard of the 2 big movies and guessed lol
Fuzz Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 I have not read any of these books, so I picked American Psycho.... only because I am looking at a bunch of business cards at the moment. 1

Ken Gargett Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 i reckoned it was one of two. it was. i pciked the wrong one, which is sitting nearby waiting for me to read it. while we are on this, and i assume anyone getting this far has voted, anyone read 2666? i tried so hard. i slogged on and on. what a boring heap of drivel. eventually, i could go no further.

I'm part way through The Savage Detectives. Plan to read 2666 as a follow-up. It's highly lauded by all and sundry, apparently. That said, as far as Detectives goes, I rate a lot of other authors and texts much higher.

westg Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 I guessed American Psycho...with nearly all of these I have no clue. One of my absolute favourite movies,

Fuzz Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 That scene always cracks me up. How they are so obsessed with having the better looking business card, with minor differences in shade and font between each card.... yet they all missed one tiny detail. 1

Never noticed that before. Aquisitions.

ChangBang Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Congrats! Never heard of 2666 or infinite jest
BigGuns Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 It sounded so much like something Patrick Bateman would blurt out to himself, too. I am HORRIBLE at this game! Congrats @taylorgov2
