Final third burn issues

I store my cigars in a tupperdore at around 67-68 and dry box them for a week before smoking, I live in a dryish city maybe about 50% humidity. I've been finding that my cigars struggle to stay alight on the final third perfect, loose or tight dray, aged or young. Smoke gets hot on the tongue and generally loses flavour when I try to get it going again. Anyone know why this could be?

High rH smoking environment can can cause it but 50 rH is low enough. 

Are you slobbering over the cigar or overly squeezing the head while smoking?

I would try dropping your humidity. Seems like it’s fine for the first two thirds but as the tar builds up and the tobacco gets sucked inward it’s tightening up on you. By no means an expert but try 63-65.

Try purging the cigar, blow back through the cigar with a lighter infront of the ash, sometimes it improves the flavour.

Regarding the hot flavour, how fast are you smoking it? How many puffs per minute? Smoking too fast could cause the hotness but generally on aged examples this is less so.

Funny i was thinking about making a post today to talk about the virtues of lower humidity. I recently switched my tupperdor from 65% to 62% for about two weeks. Lit a cigar today, Partagas Serie D No. 5, and had zero burning issues. It was a very enjoyable smoke.

 

I think with how well the tupperdor seal it better to go lower as most of the humidity is trapped in.

There is an old saying with cugars; foin, divin, purin.

  Roughly translated they are divided into the hay, the devine, the manure. The final third can be a love it or loath it section. Obviously that's more to do with taste not burn, but that last third does get hot, wet and grubby far easier than the other two. 

  Certainly slowing down and having shallower draws helps, if you're a slobbery smoker then there's a limit to how much you can get around having a damp end

yeah I smoke on the slow side preferring to "sip" away and not a slobberer, all tip of the lips for me. I might have to try playing around with humidity. My experience has it that bolder or younger cigars are going to burn hotter towards the end, but at least they burn. Maybe I just need to dry box them longer and lower the RH.
