Popular Post Bri Fi Posted October 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2020 The family just finished up a week trip in Santa Cruz, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. I spent my daughter’s nap times smoking cigars with my father in law. Today I returned back to reality and decided I needed something special to close the vacation on my way to work. I’ve been stuck between wanting to try a stick out of this box, and not touching any for five years as many suggest with Cohiba. I haven’t had luck with any of my 2017 Siglo IIs yet, so I was hesitant. I opened the box to decide, and the smell coming from inside was unlike any other. It smacks you in the face with sweetness. That’s when I knew I had to try one. I chose the particular cigar because there was a pretty significant split at the foot of the wrapper. The wrapper was toothy and had a sour barnyard aroma. The foot of the cigar was much more sweet. I cut the cigar with a straight cut. The cold draw was chocolate and raisins with the perfect amount of resistance. I paired this stick with coffee, water, and Bob Marley’s greatest hits. I didn’t want to have coffee with my first Siglo VI, but I had to be awake for 30 hours straight and coffee is essential. I snapped a photo of the cigar on my way out the door and smoked it on the car ride to work. The first draw was pure bliss. Very very clean, and refined. The flavors bounced around for a majority of the first third. Initially there was a sweet bread and honey which later turned into sweet cereal. The flavors were unique and very enjoyable. The split in the wrapper was no problem as the construction was spot on. The smoke output was exceptional and the texture was viscous. The aroma in the car was so sweet I almost drove with the windows completely up it was so enjoyable. The second third started to become a little harsh. I began to get meaty flavors, wood, and leather. I purged the cigar and immediately went back to the flavors of the first third. The construction was razor sharp until the final third when it became a little wonky. I provided a couple of touch ups here and there but no relights. The flavors maintained, but I had to purge a couple more times to keep the cigar sweet and savory instead of bitter and leathery. Overall, the first third was quite an experience. I could tell I was in a different ballgame with this cigar. The stick ended up being a little one dimensional, but when the flavors are this good is there a need for complexity or transitions? I was happy with the sweet bread and honey the whole time. Is it worth the money? Hard to say. It’s one of the best cigars of the year for me, but I’ve had better ones that were cheaper. I will say that I am happy I bought a box so I can monitor the transitions over the years. Cheers! Smoking time was 1 hour 40 minutes. Rating: 93/100. 15 1
