Meklown Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Saw this technique on the forum earlier and I had used it on cigars with overly dry wrappers - although none recently. I figured in order to find any taste difference, better to use a cigar that I'm familiar with. This box is freshly cracked, and is probably the 4th/5th box that I'm on this year. Would have been funny if you find a box from this factory made in December ? Montecristo No. 4 RUB JUL 19 Dry Review Had the dry cigar last night - first from the box so it would be good to start with a control. On the nose it smells sweeter than the previous box that I've had. Chocolate flavor is curiously missing, which is to be a hallmark of montes. The cigar starts with sweet cream, and is tighter than what I prefer. Not plugged, and is still smokeable. There is a weak chocolate if I look for it, and some malt. The sweetness never goes away. To me, this is a cup of Milo with too much condensed milk and not enough milo powder! There is minimal change throughout the cigar. Not to taste not to the draw. Overall unimpressive - just a light sweet creamy smoke with nothing much else. Disappointing 78/100 overall. Hopefully the box gets better / the water tomorrow will help to enhance some flavors! For those who don't know - this is a chocolate-y powder where you mix into hot water and add condensed milk to make a chocolate drink. Usually for breakfast or supper, but really, any time will do! 4
KavalanWhisky Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Please try dipping it in Milo and Condensed Milk ? 3
djrey Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I have the same if not close to the same box code with similar looking wrappers. Had one and found it very bland and boring. I won’t try again until next year. 1
Popular Post Meklown Posted October 21, 2020 Author Popular Post Posted October 21, 2020 Montecristo No. 4 RUB JUL 19 Wet Review Unfortunately, @KavalanWhisky, I have run out of Milo at home. Another night, another Monte 4. Today we're doing the dipping. Before I start, I notice that this cigar looks horrible! I'm not sure if these are green spots or mould. However, no signs in any other cigars housed next to or near it so I'm going to smoke it anyway. But first, the dip. After I stuck the cigar in my water cup, I realised I forgot to measure and it's not long enough. LOL. Tried to fit more of the cigar in diagonally but one inch still stuck out. Took it out and rolled the excess water on a tissue. Lighting was normal. Draw was fine. Immediately the taste was condensed milk and Milo powder. Smoke was a much better volume than yesterday's stick. Taste is actually similar but basically turned up. I think the better draw is helping with this. Approaching the wet area, taste of the smoke does not change. If I were to really look for a difference, I would say that the smoke is more velvety in texture. Of course, yesterday's draw was terrible so it may not be a fair comparison. The ash also becomes very flaky and doesn't tap off properly. It's falling all over the place! Now I taste something weird .. like .. vomit? It's just lingering but not unpleasant enough for me to stop. Also pretty sure it didn't come from my stomach. Final third brings out some citrus flavors. That peculiar vomit taste has disappeared. Could that be due to those green veins? Overall I'll score this 81/100. Good smoke overall, not sure if the water helped to improve the texture of the smoke as my control couldn't produce the right volume of smoke. Would have been better without that fleeting vomit taste. Also prefer a tidier ash because I smoke indoors and don't wanna get ash all over my sofa. 5
KavalanWhisky Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Shame about the Milo and the vomit profile.....great write up! 1
