Popular Post sho671 Posted October 6, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 6, 2020 This one is definitely a weird one. As many of you may know, there has been controversy with regards to whether or not the Sobremesa Brûlée line of cigars has a sweetened tip or not. I've heard about it from other cigar smoker, on podcasts and even other manufacturers chiming in on the issue. It even went so far that Steve Saka came up with a STFU blind sampler of regular, sweetened and double sweetened Sobremesa Brûlées. I was trying to pick a morning smoke on Sunday and went with this one. It is the first Sobremesa Brûlée I've smoked and decided to test out the claims. I cut the cap and took a cold draw, and there was a little sweetness on my lips. I flipped the cigar around and performed a cold draw on the foot of the cigar, but there was no sweetness. I then proceeded to lick all around the cigar between the foot and the band, again with no sweetness. I went to go light the cigar and was met with some more sweetness on my lips. The sweetness dissipated somewhere in the first third and never returned. The sweetness that I tasted was not like what I have experienced with the artificial sweetener used with Acid, Tabak Especial or Java cigars. Based on my subjective findings, either the cap is sweetened (with natural sugar) or the elusive strain of sweet Connecticut shade wrapper that is used on the Sobremesa Brûlée cigar is only used for the cap and not the wrapper. Aside from the sweetened or not controversy, the cigar was very well constructed and had great burn, draw and smoke production. It was creamy with some nuttiness and made for a very easy and enjoyable morning smoke. I have a couple more Sobremesa Brûlée Robustos left, but I'm not sure I'll be licking any more wrappers; or maybe I should for science. 1 on my 0/1 scale. 10 1
fokker4me Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Thanks for the review. I smoked one this past week, and found that sweet tip to be a thing as well. At that price point I think there are better things to smoke and found it pretty one dimensional.
alloy Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 The regular Sobremesa Brûlée isn't the cigar everybody was talking about. It is the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue. I bought a five pack and the STFU! pack of five. I've smoked all the five pack (not the STFU!) and they were as you described. Sweet on the initial first puffs, then that dissipates. I found the blue to be mild medium with creaminess and nuts. Overall, still a good cigar. 2 1

The first time I heard about the sweet tipped or not controversy was early this year and had to do with the Sobremesa Brûlée, which was released in August 2019. The Sobremesa Brûlée Blue wasn't released until June 2020, around the same time as the STFU pack, which were variations of the Sobremesa Brûlée with different sweetened tips. So I'm a little confused about what you're saying. The sweetened tip issue originated with the Sobremesa Brûlée, not the regular Sobremesa or the new Sobremesa Brûlée Blue, though the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue is the Sobremesa Brûlée with a year of age and a few "tweaks" and could also be up for debate. I'll eventually get to the other Sobremesa Brûlée Blue and Sobremesa Brûlées I have and see how they compare.. https://halfwheel.com/dunbarton-tobacco-trust-releasing-sweet-tipped-sobremesa-brulee/377350/
