Hello FOH,

Hope all of you are well and safe.

Looking for your opinion about the flavor and body of the H.Upmann Connoisseur No.1 vs H.Upmann Magnum 50.

Thank you.

Hogwash, balderdash and poppycock.

I like 'em both.  Alot.  But the recent Mag 50s I've had were rich, complex and flavorful.

UEB NOV 19 10s only marginally better for me than any Mag 50 I've ever had. Not rich at all for me. Searching for flavors. Mild, even downright bland at points. Pretty typical for a Mag 50 for me since 2008. I mean, Mag 50 isn't even in the same universe as a Sir Winston in terms of richness.

In fact, I'm smoking a QdO Coronas right now that is richer than any Mag 50 I've ever had. Not by that much, but it is.

I don't think it's controversial to call the Mag 50 objectively the lightest Upmann. Is there one lighter?

I wouldn’t call the magnum series golf cigar, but I agree it is significantly lighter than Connie 1.  The only Upmann I smoke is the Connie 1.

The Magnums are all over the place with little in common with each other. I hesitate to call it even a line. They're all very different cigars. But the Mag 50 for me is a larger cigar using high quality tobacco with flavors that kind of just hover in the background and nothing in your face. That's why I think golf or socializing or an activity that requires attention where I'm not focusing on the cigar.

The Connies have a bit more in common with each other but recently the 1 has been the only one I buy. The last As I had were just as light as Mag 50s while the 1s have pretty much always delivered. The B has just never really done it for me. I'm very much looking forward to what they do with the upcoming Connie 2.

You’re gonna hear a whole lot of foh cult love for the mag 50 here, but I am Of the opinion that they are watered down, light, airy dog crap of a cigar ...but that’s just my opinion

Well, I didn't want to be that blunt, but I can't disagree.

I always reach for the Connie 1 and the Mag 46.  If I want a bit lighter but full flavor I go for the Mag 54 or HU #2.  I, like others above, find the Mag 50 and the Connie A to be quite a bit lighter bodied.  And I often find draw issues with the 50.  Haven't tried the Connie B.

Can't say.  I haven't had them all.  But I do smoke a shitload of Connie 1's.  One of my favorites.  I've got one in my gobb as I type.

I just finished a box of UEB ABR 19 Mag 50's that were all over the map.  Inconsistent as hell but none that I consider light and flavorless  Had a box ESL ABR 19 before that box that killed it.  Every one was terrific.  As good as any Upmann I've had, with the exception of Sir Winnie which we probably agree is in a different class.

Never got much out of QDO and would agree that "light" is a huge understatement.  Wouldn't consider it a benchmark for any Upmann I've had, which is quite a few.

If the Mag 50s are considered light and flavorless, I'm definitely an outlier.  Doesn't describe my experience.  There again I can't say I've been smoking Mag 50s from 2008 (although I have been smoking CCs since the mid 90s at varying degrees of intensity and budgets).  Just gave 'em a shot for the first time last year.  For now, I'll save mine for the porch rather than the golf course.

Mag 46 over both for me me. But I'll take Connie 1 over Mag 50. I was in to Mag 50s last year because one BRE OCT 18 box was outstanding and probably similar to Senor Carlson's expeirence that described above. But I havent been able to replicate. Recent Connie 1s have been more consistent.

Idk, UEB 18 Mag 50’s have been super rich, flavorful, and just powerhouses all around, so much so that I’ve left the rest of my box to mellow out for a bit because the strength is overpowering the delicious flavors that are there. First and only Cuban cigars that have ever “got to me”.

The Connie 1’s I’ve been smoking from 2017-2019 have all been delicious, I’d say right right down the middle in terms of body, strength, and flavors.

I give the nod to Connie 1 because they are a tremendous value, and I like the vitola better

Connie# 1 is a great cigar, perfect size, smoking time and flavors.

Mag 50 is too big, too mild a blend and just plain boring, IMO. I would never spring for a box of these at any price.
