Just found this on reddit.  19th Century Turkey. Gold calligraphy on a tobacco leaf.

Translation. 'In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful'

So, proof that tobacco is divinely ordained? 😁

Also titled "Grouse Shoot in Argyll," this painting of gentlemen taking a cigar break after a driven grouse shoot was commissioned by the Gold Label Cigar Company. It appeared in advertisements in 1967 with the caption, "Day's end after grouse shoot on the moors of Argyll" and the slogan, "In the afterglow of a challenging day, men of action the world over pause to enjoy the companionship of Gold Label, the internationally acclaimed cigar of magnificent aroma and masculine mildness."

Hell shows rows of stubbed-out cigarette ends and a single Cuban cigar on the shelves. The use of metallic foil blocking onto the inkjet transforms the print, unremittingly drawing the viewer in and multiplying the cigarette butts. These objects embody the contradiction between desire, pleasure, and death. The ashes recall a graveyard and the cigarette stubs create a ‘feeling of arid post-humanity in the most expansive way’ (Brian Dillon, Ugly Feelings in Damien Hirst, Tate 2012).

The cigarettes, now expired, are an image of dystopia and a reminder of mortality. Cigarettes are a recurring theme in Hirst’s work. He explains: “The whole smoking thing is like a mini life cycle. For me, the cigarette can stand for life. The packet with its possible cigarettes stands for birth, the lighter can signify God, which gives life to the whole situation, the ashtray represents death being metaphorical is ridiculous, but it’s unavoidable.”

Picked this up in a local charity shop for £20. 25x33 inch numbered (663 of 1000) lithograph on canvas. Endorsed by the National Council of Cultural Heritage (CNPC) and produced the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba according to a sticker on the back. I'd love to know how it made it to this quiet suburb in Surrey...

I really like the piper ash tray.. not sure why. The lighter is nice also. 

The Yamaha is Rob's fault. After I saw his bike in Brisbane I wanted to add a little Cohiba to one of mine.
