Rob,

When blending the tobacco for ie. 04 regular production cigars, is any vintage tobacco from other production years blended in to keep the consistency of flavor from one year to the next or is it strictly from 03 crop?

I'll be interested in hearing the answer on this, but I believe it is a no.

Loki.

Ken and I will be doing an indepth on blending and maintaining blends while in Havana Feb.

My understanding from Habanos sources is NO to the point that older tobacco is intentionally used to maintain a blend/profile. If it is available...fine it will be used. If not then they will use what is available. If what is available is unsuitable for the blend of a particular marques vitola then it will not be produced.

Thanks Rob.

I've read about using surplus tobacco but wasn't sure about the blending process.

I am very interested in finding out your report on this while you are in Cuba. As always, you are able to bring cutting edge info to our waiting hands and we all thank you for the continued education and information available here on FOH.

I'll second that! This is the only forum whose moderators seem to have real insider information and are willing to share it readily. Thanks! :-)
